Elizabeth Perkins says the love scene in ‘Big’ wouldn’t happen today
New York Post ^ | April 1, 2021 | Nicki Gostin

“We don’t see them having sex but he does take my shirt off,” Perkins, 60, tells Page Six. “Actually, I take my shirt off and he touches my breast, then we cut to the elevator door opening and he’s got a big smile on his face. We never say, ‘Oh they slept together,’ but they definitely fooled around.”

In the 1988 comedy, a teenage boy finds himself in the body of an adult (Hanks) following a carnival wish. Naturally, he finds a dream job in New York City and even snags a girlfriend — played by Perkins.

Nowadays, she says, “they wouldn’t have shown that at all. I think we’re in a different time.” And, for the record, “I’m totally on board with that.”

I never saw this movie? Is she saying this because the Hanks character is supposed to be a boy?

Yes, and in the movie, Hanks acts like an innocent boy in a grown man’s body.

it’s a reasonably good 80s comedy. Watched it years ago. Worth watching once if you just want a feel good not deep movie

Michael Jackson syndrome.

And we know how that turned out.

Yes, in the movie he is just BARELY a teen, he is age 13.

To call a 13-year-old a “teen” is true in only a technical sense, I think. That’s really more like a child.

And the context of the news article I think it is misleading. I think most people would assume “teen” to be somewhat older, maybe 16 to 18 years old.

Adding to my comment above: Lots of movies in the 70’s and 80’s couldn’t be made today - another example is “Weird Science.”

In Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet”, Juliet says she is “not yet 14”. Romeo is old enough to get in fights with grown men, so he’s probably around 18.

Visualize that movie being made today.

"Yes, and in the movie, Hanks acts like an innocent boy in a grown man’s body."

Considering what we know now about Hanks, I can't picture him as "innocent".

Can't watch his movies.

Michael Jackson had arrested development, because of the sever advice of his father.

“Weird Science” was a fun movie. :-) But... even the actress said a few scenes couldn’t be made today.

I watched part of Blazing Saddles last week.  That movie certainly couldn't be made today, either.

Some Most of the lines in that movie would make the woke crowds' heads explode.

Have you ever seen the movie “Sumer of 42”, starring Jennifer O’neill, the movie was made in 1971....that movie could probably not be made today, it involved a 15 year old boy and much older woman who had recently been married.

And Jennifer O’Neill later became a pro-life activist. She was a remarkable beauty but I did not like Summer of ‘42. It was a huge hit but a painful coming-of-age film.

Weird Science had its obvious merits (Kelly LeBrock..................sorry, drifted away for a second), but aside from the main attraction Bill Paxton as Chet was hilarious. Nothing tops his role in Aliens, though.
