A woman says she was left penniless in her bank account after a coffee run and months later she's still fighting to get her money back.
Lisa Angello says she stopped in at a Colorado Starbucks for a drink and was shocked to get a notice later from her bank warning that she was overdrawn.
The problem was that the $5.70 was actually entered twice in the charge machine, making the amount charged $5,705.70.
Angello says she assumed the problem would be an easy fix but she says the error has turned into a months-long back-and-forth between her, USAA Bank, and the coffee company.
"I am caught in the middle. No one has my back, and no one's listening, I want my money returned to me," Angello says.
She says the bank has put money back into her account as a provisional credit so she can pay her bills, but the process to actually have her money problem fixed continues.
"And it doesn't even matter whose fault it is anymore. I just want it rectified. I want it made right," Angello says.

Because fat-shaming is so important to this story, right?
________
yeah, noticed that.....c’mon man, give a girl a break.
I broke down and went into a Starbucks in Washington DC a few years ago...
Little geeky guy asked if he could help me...
I said I’d like a cup of coffee...
He asked what size?
I said medium...
He said do you mean Grande?
I said no, medium...
He said that’s about the same...
he then asked what flavor?
I said coffee...
he asked well, what do you want in it?
I said coffee...
He then said with a high squeaky voice You, you want just PLAIN COFFEE????
I said never mind and left...
He asked what flavor?
I said coffee...
...It looks like she may have double-entered the price herself. Even then, the matter should be quickly resolved.

I’ve NEVER entered the price myself in any card reader at any restaurant or shop.
For a customer to do it sounds fishy.
Because I couldn’t conceivably care less of what befalls democrats.
I charge everything on a charge card and pay it off every month.

I couldn’t. Didn’t have a US-based credit card
Since I returned to the US a mere 2 years ago in 2018, my FICO score was zeroed out, with my last US based bank account at Navy Federal Credit Union. Debit card only (plus an AAFES card useful at the O-club on base). Never bothered with a credit card from them.
No US-based credit cards. Had HSBC and Citibank cards. They would not transfer to US accounts - all charges in the US would be international, and they were a pain to pay off as they were Singapore-based cards. So I paid them off and let lapse.
Only cards available to me with a 0 FICO score were $300 prepaid secured credit cards with $10 a month monthly charge and a $80 annual fee that was taken out of the initial deposit. All at 36% APR with immediate interest charges.
So yeah, debit card. So far, Chase was OK.
You should have said an online bank and it may have made sense, but it looked as if you were rubbishing USAA... That is not right.
I thought these West coast types were masters of software and systems design. How freaking difficult, given the application
———
It’s all unqualified copy-paste H1B Dot Indians doing the coding now. Americans need not apply.
That cautionary step that you describe is something even the lowly Dollar General does online. They give you plenty of chances to adjust, delete or add on to your order before you press “ORDER”. Amazon does it too.
That’s wasn’t there fault of USAA, it was banking regulations of the Patriot Act.
Could have warned her that coffee was unreasonably priced at Starbucks for crappy coffee ... think she has learned a lesson?
Excellent coffee. I switched from Folgers to DD a couple of years ago. Delicious coffee
It’s not just Starbucks. The problem is everywhere nowadays. Customer service is terrible. Good luck getting to talk with a person on the phone. If you do reach someone, it’s someone in a faraway country. Recently a store cancelled my orders. Took almost two weeks and many calls before I got my full refund of about $200.
40 bucks a 4X8 ft sheet. Half inch thick.
Hell, pine commons-1x12x8ft are over 10 each if I remember right.
As a side note, this is why I always ask for a printed receipt. Then CHECK that receipt before leaving the store or restaurant.
A 1X12X8ft common pine board is OVER 20 bucks each.
That a four quarter by 12 inches by 8 feet. And it aint even a 4 quarter board-its 3/4...of an inch.
4 quarter means 4-one quarters of an inch, or 1 inch.
Ask them for a 4 quarter board. Most youngsters wont even know what the hell your talking about.
Debit card debts go instantaneously to your checking account.
Actually this is not always true. I have a PayPal MC debit card linked to my PayPal account, which is linked to my Bank.
When a charge comes through, I instantly get both a text and an email (often before the waiter gets back with the charge receipt for me to sign) confirming/verifying the purchase. And I can (and have) dispute it right then. And the charge never even gets passed on to my bank until the next day.
And if it’s a restaurant charge, and I add a tip when I sign the receipt, then the charge stays pending until restaurant resubmits the charge with the tip added, and it can be several days before this happens. And then I get another text/email alert. And then it shows up at my bank the next day.
I’ve never been dumb enough to use a bank...only credit unions.
+1. When you pay with a credit card, you are paying with the credit card companies money and they are the five hundred pound gorilla that’s in your corner when trouble arises. When you pay with a debit card, it’s your money. If problems happen, it’s your money that’s gone and you that needs to do the fighting.
The only thing I ever pay for with a debit card is gasoline, and that’s here at my local station. That’s because I want the cash discount.
Yeah, so ridiculous.
