There's lots of Cuban owned mom and pop bodegas around Tampa where I can get good strong coffee at much more resonable prices, and without that woke pretentous aura Starbucks is known for. Besides, given Starschmucks' "progressive" corp culture you'd think they would want us to BUY LOCALLY. You know, to save the planet and stuff..

No it was the fault of USAA:

1. We had power of attorney on his account, USAA insisted that it had expired 30 days after he died and we had to get a new one.

2. We offered the will with executor instead of the POA it took 2 months for USAA to accept it.

3. USAA denied for 2 month that there was a “Subscriber Account” associated with my Dad, a retired LTC, finally after me insisting to keep talking to managers they acknowledged it existed, with over $5K in it.

It was very difficult to deal with them, not the USAA that I joined in the 70s.

I was so happy the other day when I observed that a Starsucks in my area had closed, and that stupid logo with the green hippie girl is gone.

When you pay with a credit card, you are paying with the credit card companies money and they are the five hundred pound gorilla that’s in your corner when trouble arises. When you pay with a debit card, it’s your money. If problems happen, it’s your money that’s gone and you that needs to do the fighting.

My Wells Fargo debit card was compromised this past Friday. I found out because Wells Fargo sent me a text asking about a charge. I live in Texas, and had used the card that day, and the fake charges were from California. They are crediting back the charges and issuing me a new card. I don't know about other banks, but Wells Fargo wants their customers to use the debit cards and seems to stand behind them. I will probably use a credit card more often from here on out, but I have had compromised credit cards, too.

It’s good that Wells Fargo saw the trouble and supported you. My sister worked in a bank for almost 40 years and told me some serious horror stories about people losing control of their debit cards.

In particular she said that if you MUST use your debit card for whatever reason, never let it out of your sight. Don’t give it to the waiter and allow him to leave the table with it (for instance). Debit card readers are the size of a quarter and plug into any smart phone.

When money is taken from your debit card it is immediately taken from your bank account and you must work to get it back. There are many instances where someone’s account is hit, and then other bills bounce because of that, and those charges aren’t refunded because they’re from other organizations... like your phone bill or electric... or whatever.

Wells Fargo may cover the money stolen from your account, but they’re unlikely to cover the penalties from 3rd parties who charged you because a check bounced or something like that.

When money is stolen from your credit card... that’s not your money. ;)

I helped the wife of a deceased friend a few years ago. Apparently that was the time USAA was experimenting with being socially responsible.
It took a few phone calls and a few weeks but it was sorted out in the end. The company ended the experiment and it has been good ever since, same as it was before.
