The vacuum cleaner abortions.
I remember the Paul Shanklin song parodies and my favorite, “Algore Paradise.”
When I first started listening to him he also had a ahort-lived rule that any woman caller was required to have a "photo on file" in order to be let on the air. I can't imagine how they did the filing for that!
I have to say the thing I remember him most for is his love for what the USA stands (stood?) for. I just watched a speech he gave talking about how everyone in this country has a shot to make something of themselves with hard work and determination.
Rush loved all people. Sure he poked fun of libs, but he never wished bad things to happen to them, other than having them defeated. I’m sure that the majority of the people saying awful things about him never listened to a full show.
I remember watching his TV show. It was hilarious.
Featuring his amazing ties.
And he’d show a video of some dumb politician talking, with him projected in the lower right portion of the screen, watching them in amazement. Sometime he’d turn around to the camera with a confused look, and then turn back to the pol and watch with his mouth open.
For some reason it just cracked me up. I was sorry his TV show went off the air.
Dan’s bake sale.
In a Yugo :-))
I worked at a bank in San Francisco n the late 80’s.
Had a radio at my desk and listened to him before he went national.
He was the only voice at the time to talk about the failings of leftist politics and ideology
I started listening in 1992. The first time I tuned in to him he played “Ted Kennedy” singing, “I’m a Philanderet” and I was hooked! I laughed so hard! I was born and raised in Massachusetts, so that hit home with me.
I also loved “In a Yugo.”
My husband laughed so hard at “Walkin’ Round in Women’s Underwear,” but always said that it ruined the song for him whenever he heard the real version.
Hillary healthcare parodies. Extremely Funny stuff! Most of my life I expected to turn the radio on and find Rush there. Now he is gone and the loss is so profound that I don’t know what the future will be like for conservatives and American ideals in the future.
There’s simply no one who has that passion for carrying that banner. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t say that without a doubt that there’s plenty of people who do. But all I can say is that I am listening for the next icon of democracy. Trump is more the avatar of the fighting spirit, but Rush has for so long echoed the heart, mind, and lungs of conservative voices.
Another story I remember was when he had a heart-to-heart conversation with the head of CBS — was it Sumner Redstone? — when he was thinking about suing CBS over something, I don't remember what. It was interesting to hear his take on the conversation, about which he seemed to be very open.
Also some of his stories about being in the upper-level social circles of NYC for a while, before he realized that they were just using him.
What were some of his other “update” songs? I recall “Up up and away in my beautiful balloon” (condom update), what were some others? Rush really went away from these updates (remember the trumpet announcements) over the years, but these really were part of his allure in the early years.
Driving from the D.C. area (a Rush free zone) to a new life in New Mexico. In Oklahoma I picked up a station with this guy doing a parody about the House banking scandal. Life was never the same after that.
Current Services Baseline Budgeting. I couldn’t believe it when he explained it. I’m a lot more jaded now.
Also that the “Social Security Trust Fund” was, by law, invested exclusively in Treasuries.
I have been racking my brain all day. Who was the congressman who bad mouthed Rush and then I heard him calling in on air to grovel out an apology? First class moron whoever he was.
So many memories. 29 year listener here. One way to honor/memorialize Rush is by giving to one of the charities he sponsored and felt passionate about. Rushlimbaugh.com has the various charities listed under the ‘Military support’ tab.
I listened in 1988 and the aftermath of Bush defeating Dukakis (Rush called him “The Loser.”)
I also remember him playing the Homeless and Feminist Updates with their theme songs. “Ain’t Got no Home” by Clarence Frogman Henry and “You Don’t Own Me” by Lesley Gore.
Gorbachev was still head of the USSR and if there were stories of liberals loving Gorbachev it was called the “Gorbasm Update” and the theme was the Imperial March from Empire Strikes Back.
He was much funnier in the early days and I enjoyed that more.
I can’t listen to any talk radio, not for decades, too much repetition and anger stoking.
But Rush was usually positive and I appreciated that.
“For those of you in Rio Linda. . .”
I went to college at UC Davis, right by Rio Linda (and Sacramento), and started listening to Rush in 1988, my freshman year.
He made fun of Rio Linda for DECADES!
RIP Rush.
