The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.
This thread is a non-political respite. No matter what, you won’t be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our New & Improved Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a week Ping List. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!
🤣Nifty valentines. It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood. Mr. Sun is out today. Happy Valentines day.
LOL!
Awww, that’s sweet.
Very cute vintage Valentines!
So sweet of you!!!
Thank you very much for those beautiful cards.
Happy V-day to you too. And to all of our dear Freeps.
:)
Big HUGS.
Wow. That butterfly is awesome. Never saw that before.
Had to stop and stare, laf.
:D
awwww.. laf.
Ha! My guess you are in the north. I’m in the South. So I’m not sure how pre-emergence works for your climate. But if it were me, and I’ve looked at plenty of weedy yards, I would get out the glyphosate, be damned the warning, spray the weeds and start from scratch. Salt and vinegar solution works wonders as well. I’ve also heard gin, the kind we drink, will kill any plant. I don’t know, though. I’ve never left enough gin in the bottle to waste.
Oshk!
Yikes! Bummer!
But yes, our plants are always there producing oxygen and keeping us company at meal time! :)
Just add Battenburg lace place settings, red napkins, and lots of hearts sprinkled here and there.
Good deal, got rid of the Barberry. Maybe time to go with things like Saskatoons, Aronia, and Raspberry! (Maybe a drift of Sambucus Nigra Canadensis Too!)
Things that tolerate -30F winters and produce fruit!
Japanese Honeysuckle, Seabuckthorn, and Bradford pear are also invasive and problmatic.
(I am in a constant battle of grubbing the Honeysuckle on my property.)
Very nice!
Couldn’t find copperhead. Show me.
Love the mushrooms! We got near a foot of snow here near Seattle. Thatvis like 10 feet for you Wisconsonites.
My dog is having fun searching for the tennis ball in the snow each time I throw it ....his hound nose is battling his black lab excited impatience.
A hummingbird flew up next to my head yesterday when I was standing next to the greenhouse door. He stared right at me like “hey buddy...let me inside so I can sit next to your spaceheater”
Look almost dead center in the photo. There is a green leaf pointed approx at 11 o’clock. Intersecting the leaf and pointed downward at approx 7 o’clock there’s a stick about the same length as the leaf. That stick is almost touching the snake. It helps to enlarge the photo as much as possible, at least on my computer.
I saved the enlarged “solution photo” on another computer. But I’m not at that computer right now, sorry. I’ll post it as soon as I can.
FWIW, I couldn’t find the venomous little bugger either. I thought I had along the top edge, but I hadn’t. Lesson for me: stay out of cotton mouth country!
