The sprawling expanse of flat emptiness in central Florida is an unlikely place for America's fastest growing metro area in the nation. Yet, just 70 miles northwest of Orlando sits 'The Villages' – the world's largest retirement community that surpasses the size of Manhattan and encompasses five zip codes with an ever-growing population.
Spanning 32-square-miles, The Villages is a veritable boom-town for baby boomers aged 55+ who flock to the geriatric paradise in droves for its endless margarita mixers (happy hour starts at 11am), unlimited golf courses (50, to be exact), and notorious for its laissez-fair attitude towards sex, thriving swingers scene, and controversial politics.
'I'm just saying for me, it hasn't been the fantasy land I thought it would be, for reasons that are true to my own,' said Barbara Lochiatto, a widow from Boston who has lived in The Villages for 12-years and longs to return to her hometown but can no longer afford to do so.

Another boomer bashing thread....
Grow up!
Bologna. Just cheap tabloid journalism.
The Villages is not simply a retirement community, it is a city in the true sense of the word. You can go to any city and find some of any behaviour you would like to find.
Sure would be hilarious if the British twit who swilled out this BS suddenly came up missing.
Put me down for the orgies and debauchery....as long as we finish in time to watch Jeopardy!!!!
“Good bye and good riddance. From a bitter Generation Xer.”
You mean from the “hook up” generation?? The current younger generations are far more promiscuous.
I live in a house in S.E. Michigan and I'd love to move there but can't afford to.
I would do it for all the sports amenities since I hear they have softball leagues and fields galore...........that's my passion.
I feel like I worked hard all my life, paid my dues and largely did the right thing. After I retire, sowing some wild oats is not a bad idea. I was very responsible as a young man (which worked out), but in retrospect, I could have lightened up more. Staying mildly buzzed all the time is not a bad option if I don’t have to work. Having mature women chasing after me would not be bad either, as long as I get to pick & choose.
I have a sneaking suspicion that 20 years from now when you're 67 your view of old people won't be the same as it is now.....LOL!
😎
What’s wrong with orgies and debauchery?😃
I look at my Grandfathers. Both retired with good pensions that included healthcare so neither suffered for money. One was happy to grow old in the same house that he raised his kids in. The other retired and moved near Sedona, AZ. One would stop off and visit his daughters in turn once a week and have everyone over for pancakes most Sundays. The other idled away his days in front of the TV with a bottle of whiskey and my grandmother for company and to entertain himself would go down to the local VFW hall for a few drinks.
I can tell you who the happier one was, he was the one I grew up around. Retirement communities are unnatural.

Our most valuable assets in what is coming is relationships. Money and property will do you no good.
Sounds like most universities and colleges today that have fallen under liberal control. Maybe many high schools.

Boomer Boomer Boomer.
Like a broken record (remember them?).
Hippies true hippies were a very small group.
A lot of so called hippies were just young people acting out the medias romanticized story about hippies.
