Holy Toledo!!! I just added my 16 year old daughter to our policy this evening and the premium for full coverage on 3 vehicles went from close to 1100.00 for six months to just under 3000.00. Time to switch carriers immediately! As if 2021 couldn’t get worse with the fraud President being installed in already getting gouged with insurance and soon to be gasoline.
Oh so I am asking for anyone who’s had luck with carriers and their new driver. Thank you
Insurance companies base their rates on the assumption that
the highest risk driver is driving the highest value vehicle.
If you or any i. Your family are or were military, Rendon walk to USAA!!
Do NOT move to Michigan, for a start.
Welcome to the life of a teen-age driver parent! All that I can recommend is to shop around and consider a high deductible. As the dad of 7 grown kids, you sure bring back memories!
I have Wawanesa. They had the best rates. But they are very picky about who they insure. Better not have any strikes.
They all suck. Commercials about great rates but zero service. Try filing a claim. It’s like pulling teeth.
You must live in the Atlanta cesspool area. If not, my apologies.
From experience, one recommendation that I can offer is to have her covered on only 1 car. Exclude her on all of the others. That’s what I did years ago.
Should have purchased an older vehicle and just carried liability. That’s what I did and it saved me lots of money on insurance.
Time to switch carriers immediately!

Not so fast Sporto. It looks like you made a mistake by buying your daughter an expensive car that requires full coverage insurance. If you can afford to do that, you can afford the insurance hit. Don’t complain.
What you should’ve done is buy your daughter a good safe 15-year-old car without the need for full coverage. Liability only.
The second thing you need to do is remember that if you do jump ship and get another insurance policy, you will get a better quote and a better rate, but for six months only.
After that, your premiums will jump skyhigh to about what they are now. Trust me, all insurance companies love to get new business by discounting the first six months premium lower than what you’ve been paying. After six months. They go up. They all go up. Regardless of whether you file a claim or not.
Emancipate her and go with the minimum. Title the vehicle in her name.
Loved in that godforsaken state until 2009. So so thankful to have left and looking at your commie governor we made the right choice. Well right choice at the time, we have a traitor rino for a governor here, and now two socialist senators. As soon as my youngest graduates in 4 years we’re heading out to another state, Florida or Texas may be in the cards.
Yep. Suburban northwest burbs. Used to be the sticks.
We use Auto Owner’s. We added my son at 16. We added a 1997 Jeep Wrangler when he was 15 1/2. That car was for him.
Our rate on that car went up $800 a year.
We are in Ohio.
Son got good grade discount.
We own 6 cars with 3 drivers.
Our Homeowners policy is with a different insurer.
I was thinking auto owners and Farmers for starters. We also have our home with a different carrier because we get a better break with our rentals.
And we do only minimum coverage with no loan on the car.
If you have an expensive car that the teen is NEVER going to drive, some insurance companies will let you exclude him/her from that vehicle. That could help with the premium. Just pray they don’t pull a Ferris Bueller.
Why would a 16 year old even need her own car ?
