The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.
This thread is a non-political respite. No matter what, you won’t be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our New & Improved Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a week Ping List. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!
One fishing boat cruised by our place this morning.
30 degrees...
Good morning! :-)
Hello everyone from cold west Michigan. At least it is sunny!
Good morning 🌄 and thank you.
LOVE the coffee💖
Ordered my butternut squash seeds yesterday. Ordered 60 seeds..let’s see....Each vine will produce about 9 squash. You do the math. LOL
This is always such a great thread. Thank you so much Diana.
The past week has brought us nothing but unremarkable weather here in Central Missouri.
The kale and collards are starting to look a little rough, but there’s still a bumper crop out there waiting its turn in the kitchen.
I finished the new fuel tank for Pops’ little Massey yesterday. All that’s left to do is put it in the tractor, connect all of the plumbing, add fuel, and see if it will start and run. I’m going to be very happy to get that thing out of my shop so I can get on to something else.
Thinking I might try to work a couple more dead trees into firewood this weekend, or maybe just chopped and dropped. My bones haven’t told me yet today how ambitious I’m going be so that’s still up in the air. lol
Hai! Just waiting for a jump ride back to Seattle. Hope you’re doing fine - be safe!
Saturday - Main Post & Welcome for the week, general discussion
Sunday - anything goes!
Monday - Discussion Topic from the big list we made at the end of Summer, with a second PING to all
Tuesday - Gardening Book Recommendations
Wednesday - You Tube Video or Web Page recommendation
Thursday - Vegetables
Friday - Flowers
None of this is set in stone, and if anyone has suggestions, I'm open to them. This seemed to be a good way to cover the HUGE list of topics we wanted to discuss when we're not all busy in our gardens.
Just LOOK at the color of that water! Unreal!
Also - I want the house at the top right of the ‘hill’ with the pool! ;)
Oh, wait, that’s Oshkalaboomboom’s ‘Winter Quarters.’ ;)
Greetings from southern New Hampshire, where the boss has the garden catalogs open and I am updating to the new Drip Works Garden Planner.
The planner doesn’t run well on my iPad. I will try my laptop this evening.
Yesterday, I ran shore power to the RV and ran the self-leveling routine. It worked fine and now, with the crockery totes transferred to the belly box, we are set for spring. As soon as the soil warms, I will use my John Deere 318 and loader to prepare the screen room area for the platform.
I am planning on building at least one hoop house for one of our 4’ by 8’ planter beds. Hope to get some performance data and get a small start on spring.
Hydroponics is next in line.
Ha, love that!
