Looking for food recommendations and recipes to help. Any recommendations for pain, etc. Just diagnosed. More tests to follow from a specialist (when I can get in).
Go to youtube, search “ulcerative colitis.” Many videos on the subject.
I had numerous problems with GI stuff until I went to a holistic doctor in Lubbock Texas about 6 1/2 years ago. Dealt with diarrhea, constipation, nausea, pain, cramps, diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis, acid reflux, literally ad nauseum for most of my adult life. His diagnosis was that because of large doses of antibiotics when I was a child, my stomach chemistry was screwed up and allowing what is basically a massive yeast infection. At times I would be okay, but other times I would suffer. He stated that those antibiotics along with my diet (too much sugar & food that metabolizes into sugar), my normal body temperature being so low (around 97.2) and the extreme stress I was under at work basically overwhelmed my GI system to the point that I would be bedridden for days at a time. He stated most people think they have too much acid in their stomach, as evidenced by Nexium and other antacid drugs being the number one drug group dispensed by doctors in America. According to him, my problem was not too much acid, but not enough acid. I know it sounds crazy, but he literally saved the quality of my life. He put me on a diet void of all sugar and carbs, no processed food, no dairy (except free range eggs), no fruit, and no grains. He called it the caveman diet. I could eat beef, chicken, pork and fish as long as there were no antibiotics, a list of about 8-9 vegetables and a few nuts (walnuts, macadamia nuts, pistachios and Brazil nuts. He also had me taking about 8-9 different minerals, probiotics, vitamins and other some other concoctions including dried hydrochloric acid capsules, It was supposed to last 30 days, and I woke up on the 14th day with no nausea or pain for the first time in well over a year. I actually loved what this regimen did for me so much that I stayed on it 40 days instead of 30 (a Biblical number). Since the 41st day, my GI problems have been virtually non-existent. When I do feel something “rumbling”, I simply back off the sugar for a few days and I an fine again. I can eat just about anything now, including lettuce, which used to upset me to the point that I would have to go to bed if I ate it. Now I can eat salads, and virtually anything else, every day with no worries. Below are a couple of links, one to his website and another link to a YouTube video that explains how the GI system works. I promise you, even if you don’t have GI issues, the information is mind blowing.

Hope this helps.
I had it many years ago. I solved it by not eating chocolate, candy bars, and cookies. Maybe it was related to hydrogenated vegetable oil. Never had it since. Stress most certainly had something to do with it too.
Great testimony and that’s why I asked the question about LOW stomach acid! There’s actually no such thing as HIGH stomach acid; all symptoms (heartburn, GERD, etc) that the liars in MSM (last M is medicine) want you to believe. Antacids are the highest rev (or 2nd) drug in the nation.
Treat for low acid with HCL, vinegar, salt, and you’ll find alot of the digestive issues disappear.
What about peppermint tea?
The below was for you.

Actually, there are probably different triggers for everybody. What you might try is dialing your diet down to a very few things and see if the symptoms abate in a couple of weeks. If so, then work your way back into foods at 2 week intervals. Probably take a year or two to figure out what works for you.
Would that be steamed or raw? Peeled?
TY.
Thanks each and every one of you who responded. TBH...I’m quite frightened. Just reaching out to assess the best game plan. Hopefully will know more later.
Did he have bleeding?
Truthfully I only know the dosage based on peppermint extract, so have no idea if it is strong enough. It’s a trial and error sort of thing. Whatever works.
Yes, he had a horrible case of it. The medications the doctor gave him did not work and he even had a bad reaction to some of the medications prescribed. He’s been in remission for 2 years now since discovering aloe vera capsules worked for him.
So glad he’s better.
I unfortunately have dealt with it. In 2009 I left California after the economic meltdown and returned to CT to chill for a bit-—planning just a brief stay—hah.
Now 10 years later still here dealing with this. My life is now just trying to get thru each day.
I decided to get back in shape and went full exercise fanatic —quit drinking and smoking, lost 70 pounds and——got horribly sick.
The doctors diagnosed me with UC-——turns out the nicotine was suppressing the disease.
Tried steroid pills, remicaid treatments—nothing worked—finally surgery to remove colon—replaced entire digestive system between 2014 and 2016.I will spare you the gruesome details but will just honestly say may life has been a living hell since 2013-—you cannot even imagine.
I hope you do not experience what I have-—IF I could go back and do it all over again— I would have never had the osti bag removed and had my “fake” digestive system set up——its been hell—
I am in the process of trying to get it right. Your situation may be very different and God I hope so-—I have horrific health issues that you cannot imagine——
Feel free to private message me—I had my surgery done by Yale New Haven Hospital by some of the “best” in the world—ha ha ha.......so experts and the best really do not mean much-—I am happy to be of any assistance. I am a unique case and am sure you will not experience such hardships-—
TY! I’m so sorry you have suffered.
Gosh. So many replies..and so many sufferers. I will only add my experience with diverticulitis: Still figuring it out but NO FIBER. Crikey. Fiber is digested in lower intestines. The very place what is aggravated. After my 2nd ER trip due to this I did so much reading and it made sense...for some people, high fiber will forever make trouble. I looked into the paleo diet (high protein, low carb). I don’t know if it’s your answer at all but it is making sense for me...for now. So sorry for your troubles, for sure. Hope it all works out.
Raw or applesauce.
So sorry...meant to add. Meat / egg proteins are broken down higher up in intestines..which is why the paleo diet has helped me. The high fiber foods (vegetables, greens, salads) are broken down in the lower intestines which is where the troubles are for me. I’ve had bouts where I know inflammation is starting in lower abdominal, so going hardcore with just broth, animal fats, eggs, etc will heal.
