Trying to go to the store less during the coronavirus pandemic? 24/7 Tempo has assembled a list of foods that won't spoil quickly, making them good choices to stock should you want to quarantine.

1. Apples • Shelf life: 2 weeks to 6 months The apples we eat in spring and summer were often harvested in cooler weather. That's because they're a fruit that can stay fresh and crisp for as long as six months if they're stored in a cold, dark place (such as a root cellar in winter). If they're kept in a fruit bowl at room temperature, they'll generally remain at their best for at least two weeks, sometimes as long as a month.

Number 5: not tuna. Sardines and Mackeral. Costco has both and often on sale. They are like miracle foods and because they have a short life and are low on the food chain, there is a LOT les mercury to worry about.

I regularly use stuff that has expired with caution of course....with canned tomato products I boil them for at least 10" before using them...

sugar and salt should remain safe forever if kept cool and dry and away from pests....

Oats are another good one. It can be tossed into soups to add bulk.

Split peas/lentils would fall under beans, but they are a bit easier to cook

One isn’t quite near starvation if a “blecch” is involved.

Slim-jims can be used as rodent bait in a pinch if you want them to die of high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease.

#5 Honey. I kept bees a while back. As I was clearing out my garage I found a 5 gallon bucket of honey with the date 1984 on it. I opened it up expecting to find a crystalized solid mass. To my surprise it was still liquid. It was dark, but as I recalled it was dark when I harvested it. Tasted just fine.
