The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.
This thread is non-political respite. No matter what, you won’t be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our New & Improved Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a week Ping List. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!
There really IS a difference in bloom times and plants.
Easter Cactus, Thanksgiving Cactus and Christmas Cactus really DO bloom at different times, if given the right circumstances.
I’m too far ‘south’ for the Pileated, but I’ll bet my Red Bellied Woodpeckers would LOVE a bigger suet cage.
Thanks for the tip. :)
I have a shepherds crook that I hang our hummingbird feeder on. When they leave, the birdola cage goes up, I use 4 cable ties to tie it flat against the crook top. It is very stable then. The birdola cage has 2 little wire “shelves” at the bottom and the birds really like to grab onto that. Last year or the first time we even had a little junco sit on the shelf and have some suet. And they are always ground feeders. We have our share of woodpeckers too from downy to hairy to red bellied to pileated. Then again our house is in a very old woods. Up early today, baking day - zucchini bread and cheesecake.
Boy, you nailed it!
We are at my sister’s in Punxsutawney, PA for Turkey Day. I am well into my sister’s “Johnny-Do” list. Replaced her front lights, going to replace the mailbox, and add a couple of outlets on her shed. A couple inside light fixtures and some miscellaneous repairs. Heading home on Saturday.
The site at home is ready for the RV. If the snow holds, I should be able to clear our campsite before Christmas. Next spring will be very nice!
Happy Turkey Day, everyone...remember, “You are what you eat!”
ThaNKs You too :)
Wife and I are going to dinner at our favorite restaurant in about an hour.
Tomorrow; salmon, Uncle Ben’s rice spiked with Minnesota wild rice from the rice cooker.
None of our relatives are coming. Son Jeremy is in Olympia w/girlfriend...
Our black cat will join us.
Mom is hostessing Thanksgiving; it will just be 6 of us. It will be traditional fare; Turkey, Taters, Squash, Stuffing, Green Bean Casserole, her homemade bread and Pumpkin Pie.
She’s doing it all herself - she would NOT let anyone bring a thing this year, but I’m bringing a few bottles of wine and some relishes. ;)
I’m REALLY looking forward to it.
God Bless Us, Every One! :)
Our restaurants just reopened after a 2 week shutdown but they have to close by 6pm. Since Spaniards don’t normally eat supper until 9pm or later I don’t even know why they bothered.
In a show we watched the other day a chef who runs a Michelin starred pub commented that once people start realising that the pints they pay 5 pounds for at the pubs can be had for less than a pound at the grocery store it’s going to be extremely difficult to pull them back in once things get back to normal. It only takes a few weeks to develop a new set of habits and the habit of getting your drinks at 80% off will be a hard one to break.
Lady Bender has been collecting the Lenox Holliday pattern china for 60 years
Is it supposed to be grateful...?
Am I becoming a fussbudget...?
Usually at my in-laws in Michigan - this is the first year in many that my wife is cooking a Turkey on Thanksgiving - she usually does one for “friendsgiving” when we have all our friends over a Saturday between T-Giving and Christmas...
Wonderful
How beautiful!!Happy Thanksgiving!
LOL! One of the family Hound Dogs got into the turkey one time at my MILs.
She was NOT happy, but she didn’t shoot the dog...only because my FIL hid the shotgun from her, LOL!
Very classy! Love the Lenox! :)
My sister’s Labrador retriever ate an entire Wedding Cake once.
Then she hid the tray under the rug, hoping nobody would NOTICE.
