This is what passes for a Thanksgiving feast in my part of the world. In past years they have had whole fresh turkeys available but this is the best they could do this year. I bought a couple of loaves of bread to sit out on the counter and get stale so I can make stuffing. Plenty of fresh vegetables including out yearly treat, Rutabagas. You need to take out a loan to afford cranberry sauce. It comes in jars the size of baby food jars and is about 3 Euros ($3.57) per jar. We used to make our own cranberry sauce but you can't get fresh cranberries around here. Maybe in the larger cities but we aren't allowed to leave town due to Covid restrictions. Still, we will make do. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Is it supposed to be grateful...?

Am I becoming a fussbudget...?

Usually at my in-laws in Michigan - this is the first year in many that my wife is cooking a Turkey on Thanksgiving - she usually does one for “friendsgiving” when we have all our friends over a Saturday between T-Giving and Christmas...

This year I’m thankful God wired me to be the weird, plant-obsessed, self-sufficiency-obsessed, crazy person in my family.

When there wasn’t an egg to be found in any store, my chickens kept us supplied. We didn’t even realize there was an egg shortage until Mom posted a picture of her deviled eggs on FB, and every comment was “where are you finding eggs right now?!”

Some of my online friends haven’t been able to find canned pumpkin for months. We have 3 bins full of squash in the basement.

The canning lid shortage got interesting, but I had been buying a box or two anytime I saw them on sale, for years now. It sometimes took a while for me to remember where they were hidden, but we didn’t run out.

We probably have enough dry beans to last a year or more, thanks to the bumper crop from my garden this year.

I’m not saying any of this to brag. It’s just that, it’s like I’m finally getting a hint of WHY God wired me this way. After so many years of being the freak. There’s no way to put into words how that feels.
