I’ve been saving cardboard, and my husband is going to pick up some pallets for me soon. The thing that wowed me the most, is that this guy had gone to his local grocer, and asked for fruit and vegetables they were throwing out, and he had a big box of it and just dumped it into his raised bed with the rest of this compost. I had never thought to do that,but it would certainly add a lot of compost material to the pile!
Thanks for the ping. Raining today. Not much gardening going on. Have some straw under a tarp to use in the garlic beds in a couple of days, when it quits raining. We had a couple of nice days this week.
I need to clean off the patio again too when the rain stops. Hubby has it cluttered up again. Ha.

Talk about cute. A few years back we had a young brown Swiss covered in curly hair in the beef barn at Fair. All I wanted to do is hug him and ruffle his hair. His back was about waist high. What a cutie.
I do alfalfa sprouts regularly in the winter. I use a very large olive jar. It is at least 2 quarts. In 1999 we had a big cookout here and got a huge jar of olives. The opening is super wide. I got one of those temporary stainless steel circular drain screens you see at the dollar stores. Screen just lays on top and so easy to rinse the sprouts daily.

Oy no thanks. I use a tbls. of seeds too. Learned long ago that more than that makes way too many sprouts for us so measure always. I just do alfalfa. Have done broccoli in the past and when our daughter was little I did a lot of green lentils. She would climb up on a chair and dig her hand in like a cookie jar.
Opening Day, and here I am in New Hampshire, old and not in the woods!
I did get the load of compost I picked up at the local transfer station moved from my flatbed trailer to all the raised beds and the leftover into four plastic wading pools.
We have decided to stand down from our RVing. We are getting ready to move the 40 foot Sanibel to our property, right after Thanksgiving. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate and I can get it done before the snow flies.
I’m going to look at these next trip to Dollar Tree, for sure. Great tip! The cheesecloth is only good for one go-round. It just gets too stained and grungy for my taste. Not that it’s expensive or anything, but I’m all for re-using when I can.
I am saving the planet one cheesecloth square at a time! Hear that, Enviro-Weenies? LOL!

Weather was beautiful today so I took advantage of it and planted some Dutch Iris bulbs, pansies and strawberry frosting windflower bulbs. Fertilized and watered well. Happy Thanksgiving to the group.
