SCAM.
The SS office does not use phones to contact you.
Did the caller also tell you that ignoring the call would constitute ‘willful commission of a felony’? I’ve also been getting calls about a large purchase being charged to my Amazon account. They often come from “invalid number”.
Ignore them or report the number, but I seriously doubt it will do much good. I would not return their call.
Social Security doesn’t call anyone - I get these all the time they are BS
I’m involved in a legal matter apparently and there might warrants out for me....:)
Scam Alert! Scam Alert!
If you had any questions, I’d contact SS through standard channels, if only to report the scam going on. :)
Scam call. I get those all the time. The script is usually the same. A white Toyota Corolla rented in your name was found on the south border of Texas with blood residue and 22 pounds of cocaine. They don’t think you’re responsible, but they’ll need a court fee of $500 to help you get out of trouble. Blah blah blah.
All a scam folks. Please do not give out any information via landline or computer. The Doc Sec Admin will always send out mailings.

I’m afraid to open the door since I was told by a caller that they would send the ‘cops’ to get me if I didn’t call back. (s).
I got one yesterday. It said that unless I responded, they would issue a warrant for my arrest. They’ll never take me alive.

Blocking the number is a waste of time. They fake the number that shows on your phone and then call on another number.
Play along, give bad information, and waste their time.
Since they were from Georgia did they ask you to go ahead and mail your late ballot for Biden?
I have received several of these. Blocked the number, and received similar calls on different numbers. Contacted the Social Security Administration who stated flatly that these calls are scams. The SSA stated they do not make such calls
Fraud. Scam.
100%
Blatant scam, just block the number.
Your first communication from the SocSec admin would have been an official letter, not a phone call.
Only the US Mail is legal notification. If a govt agency wants to contact you they will send a letter.
I love the scam calls I get pretending to be IRS from people with obvious foreign accents.
If you inadvertently answer such a call, don’t immediately hang up. Act like you are believing them and say you have to go get your files and just lay the phone down and go watch TV. Making them waste their time is a good revenge.
We’ve got these all along, despite the fact that I don’t have Social Security. A
governmental agency will NOT call you. I have had threats to shut down accounts and etc.. IRS penaltes, ...
I play with these scammers. I sound exceedingly worried. I then make up a completely bogus name, address, and SSN. They then miraculously find me in their records with the problem that is going to cause my Social to be cancel, to quote the robocaller. Amazing isnt it that my totally made up name, SSN and address just happens to match a person with that problem isnt it? I then get even more panicky.
They then inform me I can resolve this problem by telling me they need my bank account numbers, mortgage information, and other financial information, mothers maiden name, and other identifying information, to resolve who is actually the correct person trying to use my Social to prove that I am me. Plus I would need to pay a fee to handle all of this... some want the fee paid by money order or gift cards.
Its fun to string them along.
I received the same (couple of times) but it has to do with the IRS. It goes on to say that I am about to be arrested by the FBI.
I do enjoy the customer service aspect of the FBI giving me advance warning giving me time to destroy evidence, kill any witnesses, and move to a secure location.
Scam artist are really stupid.
If you don’t recognize the number- don’t answer. Let them come after you.
