Happy Guy Fawkes Day, Bonfire Night...
When I was a child we had a bonfire of ‘broom’ and other bushes with old tires etc and a ‘guy’ made of old clothes stuffed with straw and held together with 4 penny nails...we tried to have the biggest bonfire in town by visiting and measuring the others.. we lived right next to the river so ours had plenty of stones to stand on and room to be the largest in town...
We had fire works and the big boys carried a big bottle to use for our ‘sky rockets’ ...Catherine wheels, small bangers, big bangers, Jumping jacks, Sparklers, colorful fireworks...we had races carrying ‘Roman candles’...the mothers would bring us hot chocolate...we stayed up late regardless of school nights...
I miss Guy Fawkes Day...

I’ll make tortellini with marinara and sardines for lunch!
