Kimber Manufacturing is moving its corporate headquarters to Troy and will aggressively hire in all departments.
The firearms manufacturer last week announced it is moving to a new facility it built last year on 80 acres with more than 225,000 square feet of space, with design engineering, product management and manufacturing space.
The company, formerly based in Yonkers, N.Y., pledged two years ago to open a $38 million production facility in Troy, creating 366 jobs over the next five years, which Gov. Kay Ivey announced in her 2018 State of the State address.
In an announcement, the company said Troy was chosen for, among several reasons, its proximity to engineering schools as well as pro-gun, pro-business support from the city of Troy and Alabama.
The company said it is seeking applicants across several categories, including CNC technicians, machinists, quality control specialists, lean technicians, design engineers, compliance analysts, customer service representatives, materials planners, maintenance technicians, finishing operators, and assembly technicians.
Interested applicants may apply here.
Pedi Gega, director of assembly and product finishing, said the campus has two indoor gun ranges, one outdoor range, and a design and prototype fabrication center.
Every Kimber firearm is created with a unique blend of advanced precision technology and authentic human craftsmanship, Gega said.
Could be Troy, Michigan, too, if it wasn’t already indicated in the title as Alabama.
Most Freepers wouldnt know that Yonkers has a city income tax, but that could be a factor here. I wonder how many employees will make the move?
I cant understand why ANY gun maker or even parts maker would stay in a gun grabbing communist state. Get out. Go to states with lower taxes, fewer regulations and a culture that welcomes guns instead of one that hates guns and wishes to kill your business. New York, Maryland, California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, just leave them.
The part of the title that says Alabama should clear it up.
Sig Sauer announced last week they were expanding their NH manufacturing operations and hiring an addition 150 employees. They were especially interested in machinists.
Sig Sauer manufactures firearms in Portsmouth, NH. They are going to expand into Rochester, NH.
Im a Sig man myself. Are Kimberly guns any good? Where do they rate on the High Point/Taurus scale?
Kimberly = Kimber, courtesy of auto spell.
Sig is far superior to Kimber in quality.
Kimber has 1911 models that always seem to have problems. None of my Kimbers shoot without jamming even though they’ve been back to the factory.
I now have a Sig P320. It’s perfect. Thousands of rounds out and never a jam. It is also a unique modular design that I really appreciate. It is extremely easy to thoroughly clean and replace any part if needed.
The 1911 is far too finicky of a design, especially compared to the modern Sig P320 design.
I am too. They had a pretty rough beginning in Oregon and ended up in the Jerico precision machine factory in Yonkers. It's funny how many firearms manufacturers's states have ended up rabidly anti-gun: Colt in Connecticut, Smith and Wesson in Massachusetts, etc.
I have a couple of their pieces including an early run Custom Target Gen I - in my experience they're worth every penny. Last time I called customer service (it was for a free sight upgrade) the guy who answered the phone had a NY accent so thick I wasn't sure it was English. Good folks.
We own two Kimber 1911s. They run flawlessly. Absolutely superb quality.
Mrs. L loves hers.

We own two Kimber 1911s. The have been flawless performers for us.
In our experience the customer service has been excellent and spare parts are shipped quickly and correctly.
Sorry your experience with them differed.

I have Sig and Kimber, Kimber is competition ready out of the box. Both are nice. Kimber are a high end 1911. I don’t own any of their rifles, but the 1911s are top shelf.
My Kimber 1911 has thousands through it. Never one hiccup. Deadly accurate and reliable. I’d carry it into combat without a thought. Did you get a lemon?
Same here, mine has great. Sig is not superior quality, they are on par I would say.
We own two Kimber 1911s. Theyve performed flawlessly for us. Ball ammo, hollow points, handloads, all function equally well.
We love ours.

“Did you get a lemon?”
More than one lemon?? I know a number of people who have had nothing but problems with their Kimbers.
I just got a TLE back from the factory last month and it wouldn’t even go into battery. Had to send it back again. So much for quality control.
Helen of Troy, Alabama...
Does Sonny Cuomo know about this?
Yep. I have a Sig P320C-RX. I love it. I have a Taurus G2s which tends to be my EDC because it is smaller and I have a tactical shelf.
