Ginger was a high priced prostitute meant to replace Marilyn Monroe as JFKs mistress, Mary Ann was a very high priced, *underaged* prostitute meant to do the same; but both became redundant, which is how they got on the boat.

I've known about that for many years. Ironically, when I was a little kid, my dentist could have been a walk on double for, "the professor." He had been a B-17 navigator in the ETO who had been shot down and spent the last year of the war as a POW.

The Creator Saw the Show as a Social Commentary
When Sherwood Schwartz created Gilligan’s Island, he saw the show as much more than the wacky antics of different personalities trapped on an island. He wanted to create a show that critiqued world politics and focused on the cooperation of different social classes.
In the book Inside Gilligan’s Island: From Creation to Syndication, Schwartz stated that he saw the show as “a social microcosm and a metaphorical shaming of world politics in the sense that when necessary for survival, yes we can all get along.” Beyond the surface of coconut jokes, Gilligan’s Island is much deeper than you believe.
If you ever play trivia and answer The Brady’s you would be counted as wrong.

One summer late-twilight Saturday evening I remembered Gilligan’s Island was on and ran like lightning to the house from the field where I was playing, to not miss it. I remember the Jackie Gleason lead in music which followed, which had an exotic tropical Miami theme. My younger sister and I loved it, play acted it. We had river shore next to our house, and with friends we’d play act it, and locked my poor sister in a huge fish cage as Gilligan.
More trivia: the footage of the Minnow leaving the harbors was filmed immediately after JFK’s assassination, so flags at half-mast are seen in the marina.
Finally: I once read a few dozen maritime stories in a $1 Kindle collection. Apparently islands have almost impenetrable or dangerous surf zones, going in or out. Timing, viewing passages through breaks in the atoll, and sail assist are needed to fight the surf. Tom Hanks musta known this.
