I have a question about the Professor on Gilligan's Island?

Posted on 10/11/2020 6:53:42 AM PDT by Jonty30

Was he a professor of Economics or Gender Studies?

Russell Johnson played him. He was a B-25 bombardier in the Pacific in WWII. Flew 44 missions. Shot down during a low level strafing attack. Broke both of his ankles in the crash and that ended the war for him.

I want to know if he was hitting Ginger or Mary Ann unless they were lesbians and he was gay.

Maybe Gilligan wasn't as much a tool as he was portrayed!😎

His name was Roy Hinkley. He was supposedly a professor of physics or math at MIT.

By the way, the Skipper's real name was Jonas Grumby. Tuck that little piece of trivia away. It may save your life one day.

No he was not gay. He was married three times and had two kids. His son was gay and died of aids.

“More importantly: Ginger or Mary Ann?”

I agree, the real question. Mary Ann by a long shot.

Purple Rose of Cairo sorta deals with that phenomena. Don’t forget undiagnosed dementia or other neurodegenerative diseases.

> He couldn’t fix the boat. <

I always found that odd. And it leads to one horrible, inescapable conclusion. The Professor didn’t want to fix the boat. He wanted to stay on that island!

Was the Professor on the run from the law? Or was he simply a heartless psychopath? The federal government should give my some grant money to look into this.

PhD teaching at a high school? No wonder none of his stuff worked.

Yea, he could build a radio out of coconuts but he couldn’t figure out how to patch a hole in a boat?

He was a pretty handy guy with the exception of boat repair.

Yes, but maybe it was intentional. Even as a kid I always thought that he and Mary Ann had something going on.

The same thing happened with Mark Hamill....Luke from “Star Wars.”

Before that, Hamill was on a soap opera.

He mentioned on a talk show years ago that a woman approached him in a supermarket and said, Did you know your best friend is doing this or that behind your back, and your girlfriend is doing this and that, and similar stuff.

She thought his soap character was real!

Hamill just said, I didn’t know that! Thank-you for letting me know. He just played along.

I remember seeing him in a Twilight Zone episode. He played an inventor of a time machine that bought back a convict from the old west who ended up killing him. Convict played by Albert Salmi who sadly committed murder/suicide with his wife in Spokane.

It’s probably the network sensors.

They didn’t want to do anything too racy in those days.

They weren’t going to show the Professor running around the beach nude with Ginger or playing grab ass with Mary Ann.
TV was still fairly conservative in those days.

Russell Johnson appeared on two episodes of the Twilight Zone.

In one episode, he was a member of an exclusive men’s club and somehow he was transported back in time to 1865, just days before the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. He ran around trying to warn everyone, but it was too late.

In another episode, he played an inventor who invented a time machine, and he accidentally brought back a murderer in the Old West to the present day, just as the murderer was about to be hung. Russell Johnson’s character was murdered by the Old West outlaw.

Professor Hinkley (also a Boy Scout Leader) tried to fix the SS Minnow but his invented glue disintegrated the boat to pieces. The raft that Gilligan & Skipper built could not hold up to sharks and rough seas for the trip into the shipping lanes.

When interviewed, Professor stated that his greatest regret was that he was unable to find a way to get them rescued.

Most forget that almost any of the Professors’ attempts were
thwarted by ........... GILLIGAN!! ......

Raquel Welch as Mary Ann? One thing for sure, nobody would fire her. /Seinfeld reference.
