I have a question about the Professor on Gilligan's Island?

Posted on 10/11/2020 6:53:42 AM PDT by Jonty30

Was he a professor of Economics or Gender Studies?

No doubt. I believe Mike and Carol Brady were the first tv couple to be shown sleeping in the same bed.

Pretty ironic since it would be the only time Mike, a gay homosexual, was ever in bed with a woman.

He was one of the geniuses behind the Turbo Encabulator.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ac7G7xOG2Ag

But what got him into trouble was inventing the 100mpg carburetor. Which was why the oil company that then employed him gave him an all expense paid trip to Hawaii, including a 3 hour tour on a sabotaged boat.

Ginger was a high priced prostitute meant to replace Marilyn Monroe as JFKs mistress, Mary Ann was a very high priced, *underaged* prostitute meant to do the same; but both became redundant, which is how they got on the boat.

Back story was that Gilligan and the Skipper were on the same ship during the war. Gilligan saved the Skipper’s life. The Skipper’s rank was Captain.

Or maybe Jean-Paul Sartre’s ‘No Exit’...

No. It was The Flintstones.

I could see a rival wanting to disappear the Howells.

"Russell Johnson played him. He was a B-25 bombardier in the Pacific in WWII. Flew 44 missions. Shot down during a low level strafing attack. Broke both of his ankles in the crash and that ended the war for him."

I've known about that for many years. Ironically, when I was a little kid, my dentist could have been a walk on double for, "the professor." He had been a B-17 navigator in the ETO who had been shot down and spent the last year of the war as a POW.

That was a cartoon.

Cher claims to be the first woman to expose her bellybutton on tv. Others disagree.

My hometown high school at one time had a PhD in physics teaching science & math. Unfortunately for me he died of leukemia before I got to high school. So its possible.

Whatever he studied, I had *such* a crush on him :). And I thought Ginger the most beautiful person I had ever seen. I was too young to pick up on anything beyond surface. Oh..I just loved that show.

Also...just checked with hubby: Ginger or Mary Ann?

“Oh, hell...Ginger all the way. I’m just that shallow. 😂. Although Mary Ann could be hot wife material”.

Clearly. Since he basically had his choice of Mary Ann or Ginger in a tropical paradise, and spent all of his time trying to get off the island.

from link:

The Creator Saw the Show as a Social Commentary

When Sherwood Schwartz created Gilligan’s Island, he saw the show as much more than the wacky antics of different personalities trapped on an island. He wanted to create a show that critiqued world politics and focused on the cooperation of different social classes.

In the book Inside Gilligan’s Island: From Creation to Syndication, Schwartz stated that he saw the show as “a social microcosm and a metaphorical shaming of world politics in the sense that when necessary for survival, yes we can all get along.” Beyond the surface of coconut jokes, Gilligan’s Island is much deeper than you believe.

If you ever play trivia and answer The Brady’s you would be counted as wrong.

“Fred and Wilma Flintstone were the first animated married couple ever shown on American television in the same bed together. They have been mistaken as the first couple ever shown in bed together on any American TV show, but that title goes to Mary Kay and Johnny (1947)”.

One summer late-twilight Saturday evening I remembered Gilligan’s Island was on and ran like lightning to the house from the field where I was playing, to not miss it. I remember the Jackie Gleason lead in music which followed, which had an exotic tropical Miami theme. My younger sister and I loved it, play acted it. We had river shore next to our house, and with friends we’d play act it, and locked my poor sister in a huge fish cage as Gilligan.

More trivia: the footage of the Minnow leaving the harbors was filmed immediately after JFK’s assassination, so flags at half-mast are seen in the marina.

Finally: I once read a few dozen maritime stories in a $1 Kindle collection. Apparently islands have almost impenetrable or dangerous surf zones, going in or out. Timing, viewing passages through breaks in the atoll, and sail assist are needed to fight the surf. Tom Hanks musta known this.

Animated versus real. Two different categories.

You realize the “incel by choice” is the ultimate oxymoron.

Incel= INvoluntary CELibate.

By choice is the polar opposite of involuntary.

Doesn’t matter. Both answers would be wrong. See post 96.
