How to live longer: A juice known to slow down the ageing process to boost longevity

HOW TO live longer could be as simple as pouring yourself a delicious juice. According to science, drinking this red juice helps to slow down the ageing process, increasing one's lifespan. How?

All our cells are filled with small energy generators called mitochondria - but when mitochondria become old, they become less-efficient, and even possibly toxic.

Old mitochondria are recycled by the cell into new mitochondria - and this, in turn, is mitophagy.

With age, this recycling progress slows down which can lead to muscle weakness.

Scientists have discovered pomegranates contain a substance called urolithin A.

This is the first and only known compound that can re-establish mitochondria.

It is a fact of life that skeletal muscles begin to lose strength and mass once a person reaches the age of 50, said Medical Xpress.

The health site added: “A recent clinical trial involving two EPFL entities—spin-off Amazentis and the Laboratory of Integrative Systems Physiology (LISP) – showed that urolithin A, a compound derived from biomolecules found in fruits such as pomegranates, could slow down this process by improving the functioning of mitochondria—the cells' powerhouses.

“Therefore, Urolithin A, a metabolite of biomolecules found in pomegranates and other fruits, could help slow the aging processes.”

In a study published in Life Extension, pomegranates and how they can help boost longevity was investigated.

The study noted: “Researchers first studied Urolithin A on a common worm called C. elegans.

“This worm is often used in anti-aging studies because after just eight to 10 days it’s considered elderly.

“Its short lifespan allows scientists to observe and measure the effects of aging in a little over a week.

“The researchers administered urolithin A to a group of these worms and noted that lifespan in the urolithin A group increased by more than 45 percent compared to the control group.

“Next, the team performed several rodent studies and found that urolithin A improved muscle function and removed damaged mitochondria before they accumulate and cause cellular dysfunction throughout the body.

“Scientists know that with age, mitochondria lose their strength and die off thereby 'clogging up' cells with debris that impedes their function.”

The red rich fruit is known to be one of the healthiest for a reason. It is called as a divine fruit because it is the most mentioned fruit in theological books.

Pomegranate has antioxidant, anti-viral and anti-tumour properties and is said to be a good source of vitamins, especially vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin E, as well as folic acid.

These properties are said to help with the ageing process and to boost longevity.

Yep those veggies are good for you if you want to keep people away. No one wants to be downwind of me if I eat sprouts.

I don’t know about living longer, but I know from personal experience that if you’re an older guy and the plumbing doesn’t work like it used to drinking Pom juice everyday helps. My wife has it as a staple on her grocery list. Just saying. I may not live longer, but I’m living happier.

Do many “miracle” supplements - and zero widespread revelations that the fountain of youth has been discovered.
When those who make money off these ‘panaceas’ are the main revelators, one should maybe toss some salt over their left shoulders...just in case.

If we all took all these miracle treatments, we wouldn’t have room for actual food and sustenance - might ease any overpopulation problems....

Sprouts, cheese, beans and onions do not effect my “emissions” but Jerusalem Artichokes.... My butt thinks it is a trumpet.

Inulin, the complex sugar in those puppies does not get digested by you, rather your gut fauna do digest it and have a massive feast.

After a course of antibiotics eat some... your gut fauna will rebound like a super ball. Just be careful you don’t get launched across the room and make sure to wear a sign on your back saying “caution: hazardous area”.

This thread and topic could use some redemption:

Although the pomegranate is an ancient symbol steeped in tradition, it has re-emerged in contemporary culture, not only because of its beauty and rich history, but because the pomegranate is quite desirable for its healthy, antioxidant qualities. The word pomegranate, "rimon" in Hebrew, is derived from the Latin words "pomum" (apple) and "granatus" (seeded). Grown in the Mediterranean region for several thousand years, this remarkable fruit is rich in symbolism and there are specific references to the pomegranate in the Bible.

Exodus 28:33-34 states that images of pomegranates be woven into the hem of the me'il ("robe of ephod"), a robe worn by the Hebrew High Priest. Pomegranates can also be found in the Bible in 1 Kings 7:13-22, where the fruit is depicted on the capitals of the two pillars which stood in front of the temple King Solomon built in Jerusalem. King Solomon is said to have designed his crown based on the "crown" of the pomegranate. The significance of the Jewish pomegranate is further exemplified by its appearance on ancient coins of Judea, one of only a few images that appear as a holy symbol.

Jewish tradition teaches that the pomegranate is a symbol of righteousness because it is said to have 613 seeds, which corresponds with the 613 mitzvot, or commandments, of the Torah. For this reason and others, it is customary to eat pomegranates on Rosh Hashanah. Moreover, the pomegranate represents fruitfulness, knowledge, learning, and wisdom.

Interestingly, many Jewish scholars believe that the pomegranate was the "forbidden fruit" of the Garden of Eden. Furthermore, the pomegranate is listed in the Bible as one of the seven species (shivat haminim) of fruits and grains that are special products of the Land of Israel.

Symbolism of the Pomegranate

The crown..the Star of David..

Reminds me of

1 Sam 16

11. And Samuel said to Jesse, Are here all your children? And he said, There remains still the youngest, and, behold, he keeps the sheep; And Samuel said to Jesse, Send and fetch him; for we will not sit down till he comes here:
12. And he sent, and brought him in; And he was ruddy, with beautiful eyes, and good looking; And the Lord said, Arise, anoint him; for this is he:
13. Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward; So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah:

wiktionary:

רימון \ רִמּוֹן • (rimón) m (plural indefinite רמונים \ רִמּוֹנִים‎)

1.pomegranate (fruit)
2.pomegranate-shaped decoration on the priestly robe (religion)
3.grenade (weapon)

grenade:

Borrowed from French grenade, from Old French grenate in the phrase pomme grenate ‎(“pomegranate”‎), ultimately from Medieval Latin pomum ‎(“apple”‎) + granatum ‎(“having grains”‎). The -d developed in French under influence of Spanish granada.

Upon three rimonim:

Pirkei Avot 1.2 Shimon the Righteous was among the last surviving members of the Great assembly. He would say: The world stands on three things: Torah, the service of G‑d, and deeds of kindness.

"He would say, 'Upon three things [אוֹמֵר, עַל שְׁלֹשָׁה דְבָרִים]'..."

WARNING: When administered to humans, side-effects include constant squirming and an insatiable craving for soil bacteria.

Ask your doctor or horticulturalist for more information.

Cleopatra loved Pomegranates and I don’t see her around anywhere lately.

And now we’re back to snakes again.

Pomegranates are grown in Israel, and they are the one fruit that I could believe have regenerating powers. They are unusual in the fact that they are seed & juice, not fleshy fruit. They are spoken of in Scripture, so I give it some credence that the claim might have more than a grain of truth.
