The Great Debate (vanity post)
Original content | 9/30/2020 | By Laz A. Mataz

Posted on 09/30/2020 6:49:53 AM PDT by Lazamataz

Candidate Biden exceeded expectations and did well. He showed up, he had cogent moments, and he made very few verbal stumbles. Biden spoke a lot of lies but he was smooth in his delivery. However -- surprisingly -- I am seeing even liberal organs (such as the New York Times) call him out on those.

President Trump did very well, and in certain segments he definitely rocked. However, he interrupted and spoke over people too much. It came across as too aggressive. It also didn't allow Biden to have the chance to hang himself. Trump's performance did not knock Biden out. It was a missed opportunity.

I think Trump did very well on law and order, and on the economy, and especially on reopening America fully. I think those are the really important issues right now. People are tired of the lockdowns, the restrictions, and the virus. They want to move back toward a normal life. Trump did do a good job of framing that.

Biden did a good job looking into the camera and speaking directly to the people. He also had emotional tones in his voice at times, and that connects very well with suburban moms. Because he 'emoted' and Trump did not, I think Biden gets a big boost with the suburban mom crowd from this.

I think Trump wasted a lot of time with the Hunter Biden stuff. People don’t care. Biden was smart not to hammer the Trump tax stuff too much. Again, people don’t care.

I don’t think Biden’s renouncing of the Green New Deal or other leftwing agendas will hurt him too much, because the left will figure, “Well who ELSE am I going to vote for?” On the other hand, there were several occasions when Biden simply was not able to answer a direct question, and I think that hurts him with independent men.

I also see that while Trump will be likely losing some suburban moms for his being aggressive, he’s picking up 66% approvals from Hispanics and many black men for the no-BS nature.

On the whole, I'd say this debate was a wash.

There is also the observation that incumbent Presidents do horribly in their first debate. Remember Pappy Bush against Clinton? GW Bush against Kerry? Obama against Romney? Even Reagan against Mondale went spectacularly wrong. Incumbent presidents generally return with much better performances. The fact that Trump had anything close to a tie, means Trump did well.

I've heard people from both sides say that their man did poorly. That made me realize something: We tend to notice our side's mistakes much more and not the other side's. We end up being hyper-critical of our guy. I was interested when I heard that folk on Democrat Underground were very upset with Biden's performance. That's when this premise occurred to me... OF COURSE! We, on either side, want OUR guy to perform perfectly. The Left says, "Biden did THAT wrong and should have done THIS", and the Right says: "Trump did THIS wrong and should have done THAT!"

We cannot trust the media polls about this debate, at all. Frankly, with the planned (and announced) fraud, I suspect we cannot trust the poll that will occur the entire month of November, instead of November third, when it should have been decided.

A few I work with, who support Trump, said he came on too hot.

And you could argue that he was too aggressive, but you have to remember that the man has been accused of everything from being a Russian agent to cheating on his taxes. And a lot more. A sham impeachment attempt, and on and on. Even his family has been targeted by the press.

A lot of pent up feelings there, and it’s probably hard to hold back considering what he’s had to deal with.

Wallace’s questions were beyond biased. They contained outright lies.

They tried to paint the teen in Kenosha who defended himself against armed convicted felons, Chris and Joe tried to paint him as a white supremacist. Better get some lawyers Chris and Joe. That kid is going to become quite wealthy soon.

Remember the 2016 debates?

Trump was hostile, rude, interruptive and argumentative in that first debate. Just like last night.

I hope his second and third debates again Biden will be the same as his second and third debates against Clinton in ‘16. Calmer and more effective.

I don’t think many people in the know would think Trump would debate without interruptions, snarky remarks, and some exasperation. That’s typical Trump. He is what he is. It’s false hope to expect otherwise.

Again, my point is, what you described is normal Donald J. Trump. If anyone expected to see something else, then I say they don’t know Trump.

You can call it a weakness, a defect, or say you love his get-up-and-take-no-prisoners attitude but that’s just the way he is.

At the same time, people here seem to be overlooking the despicable and classless comments Joe made, such as calling the President a clown and telling to him “shut up” several times. Wallace should have caught that and he let it slip by with a word.

Also, Wallace asked questions meant to “get” Trump. Like Trump’s combativeness, Wallace is known for the “gotcha”. It it his style and no one should have expected other wise.

Did Biden perform well? No. He showed up, he fought, and he stayed on his feet for 90 minutes, which is a plus for him. But he also lied his ass off, and while not many ignorant voters would necessarily know that, it’s the truth.

Joe Biden's message in one sentence:

After 47 years in power, I will finally do something.

Basementman v Orange Man Bad WWF (World Wordsmith Federation) classic. Stumbling JoeJoe was a good VP for stuttering Berrie. Basementman came up for some air with his mask on. His Krebs cycle is suffering though. Not enough O2 to his morbidity brain. Smoke ‘em while ya’ got ‘em, JoeJoe. In subsequent rounds POTUS can offer you a ventilator.

47 years in elected office. Who can blame him for being a little bit arrogant, nasty and out of touch? We can. 46th POTUS would go well with his 47. 45 pounded 47. HOORAY POTUS!

The President got interrupted in his 2 minute summation and did not mention the 3 peace deals they negotiated or the trade deals. Missed opportunity.

I wouldn’t even be surprised if Trump says so himself, at tonight’s rally.

Should be fun to watch. I think Melania probably had a few words with him about it as well.

I think it's important to show Joe's Russian connection since Trump was hammered over that.

Considering what the “deep state” has put him through, if Trump didn’t walk over and drop hand grenades in Biden’s and Wallace’s pockets, he was being too kind and passive...

Glad I missed the debate - Enjoyed a beautiful evening watching the sun go down on the river. I’m done with big media kabuki sh*t-shows but I can’t wait to actually vote in person.

Perhaps the biggest indication that Trump won handily is that many on the left are calling for Biden to withdraw from the remaining debates.

Same here. I could hear it from the other room where my wife was watching (after I came home from a neighborhood walk). Sunset is SE Michigan was awesome last night with some ominous skies around.

Thanks Laz - Trump won, just barely, and didn't cover the spread, but it's a win.

Biden didn't soil himself (that we could tell), but it did seem like he was getting fed answers - why didn't the Repubs have any electronic jamming ready?

He’s being coy. If they win, they’re gonna pack that sh*t, whether or not Coney Barrett is confirmed.
