Something is definitely going on with Joe Biden. His campaign this morning called a "lid" for him for the day which means he is remaining at home. I checked for tomorrow and again, he has no campaigning scheduled. In fact, so far I have seen NOTHING scheduled for him for next week.
In effect, his campaign has ground to a halt. Yes, there is definitely something going on behind the scenes. Probably a medical situation.
It take no stretch of the imagination to see that the Democrats might have to replace Biden on the ticket. However, since voting in several states have already begun, the question is what happens to those ballots already cast? You can't assume that just because a voter cast his ballot for Biden that it should automatically go to whatever Democrat they replace him with, such as Hillary. In fact, the Constitution does not even refer to political parties.
Also what happens to all the mail-in and other ballots already printed up? Would they have to be ditched?

Not that tough, assuming Democrats control both houses of the state legislature, and that Republicans lack the ability to filibuster in either house, and that there is no Republican governor with a veto. But there are not that many states where all of that is true.
Wasn’t there just a Supreme Court ruling on point — that faithless electors are illegal? I seem to remember that electors are bound by the vote of the people. Ergo votes for Biden must fore the EC to cast those votes for Biden if he wins.

Unless he dies, not going to happen, in my opinion. But good question, I assume the DNC will pick their candidate(s), both president and VP.
Republican blocking that would be the kiss of death. Let the people have their representation. Remember, the only way it even matters is if Biden wins the state, GOP state legislatures in those states would be on a thin line anyway.
You must remember you are not voting for the candidate. You are voting for an elector who is committed to the Democrat party. They can vote for whoever replaced Joe.
But that is not going to happen. Joe is their ride or die candidate. The Republicans need to start behaving like Joe is a candidate. Pretending he is sitting in the basement, drooling, is only going to bite us in the ass.
Actually, the ballots would be for electors pledged to Joe Biden, not the Democratic Party. The Supreme Court ruled, earlier this year that electors must vote for the candidate to whom they are pledged.

In 1912 the Republican nominee for Vice President (who was the incumbent Vice President) died a few days before the election. The party replaced him. It didn’t matter much since the Republican ticket got only 8 electoral votes (Taft came in third after Wilson and T. Roosevelt). Of course that was before early voting.

In October, especially later in the month, and in early November (before November 8), the situation would have become significantly more complicated. If the former nominee won in a state that does not have a law on how its electors vote, then, theoretically, he or she could win all of that state's electoral votes. But if the former nominee won in a state that does have a law on how its electors vote, then one would have to look at that law's fine print to see what would happen and if the state's electoral votes could go to the replacement nominee.

Actually, the Supreme Court ruled that states can require electors to vote for the candidate to whom they are pledged. The case was about “faithless elector” laws. But the state legislature could change the law to allow the electors to vote for another candidate, or the law could have a clause covering a case where the candidate dies or cannot serve. The Legislature could even choose to send its own slate of electors. The Constitution leaves it pretty much up to the Legislature.
Biden has said he would pick a black woman for the Court, which limits him very much. I have seen a couple of names mentioned, neither one well-known.

Interesting. So in the examples you present, electors in Michigan and Colorado are required to vote for the candidate that appeared on the ballot. In Florida, the electors are required to vote for “the candidate of the party”, which could give leeway to vote for a replacement as long as that replacement becomes “the candidate of the party”.
As a matter of fact, early vote can be changed! I send out ballot and then realized a mistake. I called, they let me in the basket full of ballots, I found myself, and exchanged it with correction! Basically they kept all the ballots in basket to be open and voted later. However early voting is being counted instantly so no correction there.
However since the ballots are already printed, the name on the ballot will be hard to change. Sleepy Joe is in the race, like it or not. But if he wins, they can change him.
