The other night I was forced to take the latest windows 10 update .. again!
I keep having to 'rollback' to the 'previous' version because of what happens to my graphics!
(I know what causes the graphics problem but not why there is this this new problem!)
Let me explain ...
A few years ago I went through a similar mess that took me almost a year to solve!
Below is a screenshot of what that (and this) cumalative update does to my colors/graphics!
DESKTOP SCREENSHOT
It took a while but I found that on these updates ... Microsoft would delete my AMD graphics driver and the Radeon dashboard and turn my color depth to 10 bpc instead of the 8 bpc it operates at.
(bits per channel. 8bpc is what most codecs work with.)
After discovering the cause of my problem .. almost a year later, I was able to download and install the radeon dashboard and driver that allowed me to reset my color depth to 8 bpc.
(That was then)
Even though at that time, it was the Crimson version of the AMD software and not what I have installed now.
(Now it's Adrenalin)
This is the AMD dashboard that I have installed now and how I change the settings.
(On this rolled-back, non updated version)
RADEON SOFTWARE DASHBOARD
SETTINGS AREA OF CARD
(See the color depth setting? Left side down six.)
So what's my problem?
With this update, Microsoft is blocking every attempt at my trying to install a correct driver or any AMD software!!
I had no problem in installing this current software on this windows 10 version, but I can't install the same software on the new update even though AMD says this software is correct for the new update!
(Microsoft is blocking it!
(Yes, I turned my malware and virus protection off)
Oh yeah, you can't deny or rollback the update forever .. unless you are on a pro or business version of windows 10!
Is it too late to say that ..
I hope that I haven't confused Everyone? 😒
Thanks
The following is what I hope will be helpful info on what my graphics consist of.
(Chipset, no actual video card)
Graphics Card Manufacturer - Powered by AMD
CPU
AMD A10-7800 Radeon R7, 12 Compute Cores 4C+8G 2 Cores
AMD Radeon(TM) R7 Graphics - Primary/Integrated
VRAM - 1024 MB - DDR3 800 MHz
Graphics Chipset - AMD Radeon(TM) R7 Graphics
Is the problem only with your desktop background?
“You cannot turn off the updates permanently unless you are on a pro or business version of windows 10.’
i do it all the time; you just have to disable ALL of the relevant tasks and services
the updater services and tasks are the same on home and pro W10 editions, but the shortcuts of the tools for managing them are missing from W10 Home Edition, though the tools themselves still exist ... i disable updates on W10 Home Edition all the time ...
search for and run services.msc and taskschd.msc either from the search box or from a cmd window ...
some are difficult to disable, but a tool called Wub.exe can be used to disable undiableable services; osrss has to be disabled that way ...
I did away with the required Win10 updates long ago because of all the bugs and bloated add-on bloatware by turning off a switch in the Registry. No problems to report since then, over a year ago now. Just keep my virus and internet program software up to date. Color me pleased so far.
Yes.
I update to win10 and still cannot get the Firefox app installed so as to select it and it be my default browser. MS has locked me out of even the choice of having FF listed as a choice.
Oh... I do like how mine defrags a SSD.
Macrosloth Parasite 10 is malware that was knowingly and willfully misrepresented to the public as a functioning operating system. The other half of the monopoly is no better. They both need to be broken into 1000 pieces.
OK, I update people’s bios 2-5 times a week fixing problems for many years and so far not a single issue with doing it but I understand a lot of people have trepidation. And it may not be the problem. I just like to take the easy stuff out of the way to eliminate the possibility.
It should be here tomorrow.
That’s just a simulation of what the new Microsoft Covid vaccine is going to do within your cells.
Thanks to Swordmaker for the ping!
I had a major issue where windows 10 was trying to do a major update but would fail near the end of the update every time with a “fatal error”. It went on for months. The problem is that it started doing it every single day. It would not only slow my computer way down, but my hard drive was churning nonstop for extremely long periods of time while this update downloaded and installed. It was going to destroy my hard drive. I tried every suggestion I could find to get it to install, but it would not. The only think that I could do was to do an install over. I tried that and most of desktop and installed programs disappeared. My browser profile disappeared. And my email program lost everything like it was a new install. The emails no longer showed up. So I had to revert back to old version.
After realizing that I had to stop that update from destroying my hard drive then I found a program that will disable windows update all together. And it can be switched on and off with one click. I tried a ton of stuff to stop windows update but this program was the only thing that worked.

The program I just posted works great.
Good Plan!
At times I toyed with selling it.
Ones without an HDD were going for about 200 or so.
And when you do that, put this background music on, to enhance the graphics appreciation effect...
Understandable, but I would suggest that you back up all your files to removable media on a regular basis in case you get bit by an unpatched vulnerability in Windows 7 (an ever growing list). Your chances of being taken with ransomware or something similar is more and more likely as time goes by.
Ditto for me...even very old computers run much, much smoother on it than Windows 7.
You may be surprised how much smoother your computer may run on Windows 10 vs. 7. You can still upgrade for free.
