My Cousin Vinny is a 1992 American comedy film directed by Jonathan Lynn, from a screenplay written by Dale Launer. The film stars Joe Pesci, Ralph Macchio, Marisa Tomei, Mitchell Whitfield, and Fred Gwynne in his final film appearance. The film was distributed by 20th Century Fox and released on March 13, 1992.

The film deals with two young New Yorkers traveling through rural Alabama who are arrested and put on trial for a murder they did not commit and the comical attempts of a cousin, Vincent Gambini, a lawyer who had only recently passed the bar exam after several unsuccessful attempts, to defend them. Much of the humor comes from the fish-out-of-water interaction between the brash Italian-American New Yorkers (Vinny and his fiancée, Mona Lisa Vito) and the more reserved Southern townspeople.

A critical and financial success, Pesci, Gwynne, and Tomei all received praise for their performances, and Tomei won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. The film has also been lauded by attorneys for its accurate depiction of court procedure and trial strategy.

Love the scene with the dripping faucet in the motel. So many great scenes with Pesci and Tomei.

Several years ago our local Tea Party group had a meeting where the topic was funding for the public defenders office. There was a State Representative, a local judge, a group of lawyers, several local representatives and a group of public defenders in attendance with other tea party members like me. After presentations we broke up into three groups to discuss ways to fund a public defenders office. I was put in the group with the public defenders. They asked me what I thought and I said we didn’t need a public defenders office. Everyone gave me a blank stare and I explained, “ If every family in Ohio had a Cousin Vinny, ...” One of the public defenders busted out laughing and said she was required to watch that movie in law school. I have a lawyer friend who told me since then she requires her law students to watch the courtroom scenes. Great movie!

“- Vinny Gambini: Your Honor, may I have permission to treat Ms. Vito as a hostile witness?
- Mona Lisa Vito: You think I’m hostile now, wait ‘til you see me tonight.
- Judge Chamberlain Haller: Do you two know each other?
- Vinny Gambini: Yeah, she’s my fiancée.
- Judge Chamberlain Haller: Well, that would certainly explain the hostility.”

She won the Oscar for this. Impossible today because the Rat/RINO uniparty of treason would classify her performance as racist

Pesci, Gwynne, and Tomei — this Vinny movie happened to be the best performances and roles for each, IMHO. I CAN’T get too much of it.

It’s one of our favorites, and that scene the best of all; but closely rivaled by her ‘Bambi’ speech.

“Imagine Youa Deeah...”

Nah they don’t care about white ethnic stereotyping. I’m Italian and I don’t care :-)

but maybe we all should to rub it back in their faces. Like when they called that comedy show a few years ago “the mick”.

As if no one got what they were saying
