Jerry Seinfeld was spotted in the Hamptons on Monday arriving at his $32million house in a vintage Porsche, a week after labeling a comedian who fled New York City for Florida a 'putz' and vowing never to abandon the Big Apple.
The comedian became the toast of the town after writing an opinion piece in The New York Times which defended the city and rebuffed what comedy club owner James Altrucher had previously claimed - that it was done for good.
Seinfeld wrote in the piece: 'He says Everyones gone for good. How the hell do you know that? You moved to Miami. Yes, I also have a place out on Long Island. But I will never abandon New York City. Ever.'

NY looks better from the Hamptons.
Pretty easy to say when you have a safe and luxurious second home to use until all this dies down.
Never before have rich New Yorkers had a place in the Hamptons until COVID came along! This proves NY is OVER!
Was that wrong?
do any of you people know how close hamptons is to New York City and that people go there for the weekend or a week? What a silly article to post.
If I go to the Jersey shore for the weekend does that mean I have left New York City for good? ..what a bunch of old hens from boring States commenting constantly on New York City :-)
He drove a Porsche there, not a moving van.
He’s taking a week in the “country”.
That said, he is a putz.
But he’s not a putz for leaving for a vacation.
He’s a putz for defending NYC and NOT abandoning the cesspool.
What a dump. Time to leave the ghetto.
The guy comes and goes. It's OK. It's not hypocrisy.
Should I have not done that?
The Seinfelds hang with Snuffleupagus and Schmoopie.
Nexflix has a series on now about a real estate firm trying to make it in the Hamptons, so they are giving out all sorts of fun facts on that area. One of those facts is that 80% of the multimillion dollar mansions there are 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. homes. So Seinfeld probably isn’t abandoning NYC, he’s just off to his weekend retreat.

Apparently Seinfeld doesn’t - he’s the one who made the contrast. His example.
I agree. The man’s judgement regarding NYC is completely clouded, but taking a trip to his house in the Hamptons is not a sign of hypocrisy.
Asked to comment, former Seinfeld acquaintance Babu Bhatt said, “You very bad man, Jerry. Very bad man.”
I do. I live right smack dab in the the middle of the two locations.
Anyway, I think the article is pointing out that when Seinfeld says that NYC isn't dead, he's speaking as somebody who has a second home that he can escape too.
And yes, I know that the other four boroughs aren't emptying out, it's just Manhattan.
Yes, this.
LOL
"No Hamptons For You!"
People would be surprised how spartan those vintage Porsches are. Back in the early 70s they still had bottom hinged clutch and brake pedals like the old VWs. On the other hand, they only weighed around 2300lbs and even the very modest horsepower (by today’s standards) made them a lot of fun to drive.
There’s distance in terms of miles, and distance in terms of time.
A trip from NYC to the Hamptons can take quite a while, depending on traffic and the route.
