It will end poorly. While auto assisted trucks could be useful, in terms of providing efficiencies and allowing drivers to work a full 14 hours days, I do not believe they can fully replace drivers.
At least they won’t need little white pills and dodge the scales alright.
The electronic logbooks won’t be way behind. Just a few seconds to minutes depending on signal strength and availability.
Great writing but cant suffer through their website... too many open windows. Sheesh. Cant they just let a guy read an article.
Nothing can screw up the USA anything like the left their party the Democrats can. The greatest achievement of the Democrats is bringing together most of the most negative, dangerous, and incompetent people all under the same tent.
Im all for Robot Trucks. You could call them Autobots.
So, this guy thinks that only New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Atlanta will have jobs.? I want what he,s smoking
Dedicated lanes for them and it would work .
But I cant see how todays infrastructure would let them work
While they won’t be perfect, they will likely be better than human drivers.
And with each mistake the programming and hardware will get reviewed and improved until they are far better than human drivers.
The biggest issue will likely be human drivers making a mistake and trying to blame it on the self driven truck.
autonomous trucks won’t be able to handle things once off the interstate.
cant be much worse than two generations of poorly parented kids raised by grand theft auto let loose on the nations roads. it just cant be.
Robots dont unionize or go on strike. Robots dont demand health insurance. Robots increase profits. Im all for it.
Will the these trucks be able to drive onto the portable bathroom scales for a axle weight check?
Any safety violation has always gone to the driver.
Duel.
Automating long haul trucking for cross country terminal to terminal loads would be a net positive for America. The jobs currently pay well because they are bad for your health and family long term and both people considering driving for a living and the logistics firms know the robots are coming. It will be more than a few years before the trucks load and unload themselves, so regional and delivery routes (where truckers can sleep in their own beds each night) will be around.
Way down on my “things to worry about” list for the time being.
Actually they’ve been on our roads for a few years now.
