Since the virus first emerged in January around 170 vaccine candidates are now in development, with 15 already in human trials.
Oxford scientists believe they have made a breakthrough in their quest for a Covid-19 vaccine after discovering that the jab triggers a response that may offer a "double defence" against the virus.
The full results, published on July 20, showed that initial trials on 1,077 British adults found that the vaccine induced strong antibody and T-cell responses, which may improve further after a booster jab.
The discovery is promising because separate studies have suggested that antibodies may fade away within months while T-cells can stay in circulation for years.
There were found to be no serious adverse events, and minor side effects could be controlled by paracetamol, two papers in The Lancet reported.
Experts hailed the results as a "really important milestone" which kept alive the hope of a vaccine being rolled out before Christmas.
Alok Sharma, the Business Secretary, said that the clinical trial at the University of Oxford is progressing well and he said he was very proud of how quickly British scientists and researchers had come together in their efforts to develop a vaccine.
Mr Sharma has announced a further £84 million in funding to accelerate the work currently under way at Oxford and Imperial College.
And the eyes of the nation - and perhaps the world - are firmly upon Professor Adrian Hill and his team at Oxford University.
On July 20, it was revealed that Britain has secured 90 million doses of two possible Covid-19 vaccines.
Britain has signed deals to secure 90 million doses of two possible Covid-19 vaccines from the Pfizer Inc and BioNTech alliance and French group Valneva, the business ministry said on Monday.

Why would Great Britain need ‘90 million doses’ for a population of only 67 million?.............
Doesn’t matter to me. I don’t need it. I”ve never had a flu shot either.
RE: Why would Great Britain need 90 million doses for a population of only 67 million?.............
Because other countries ( e.g. India and Brazil are also participating in their trial ).
Takes two jabs to work?
Perhaps for booster shots!
no mid or long-term safety data possible with these fast timetables.
nightmare scenario.
i would avoid getting any vaccine as long as possible. for some folks, depending on legal coercion used, this won’t actually be very long.
The vaccine will be ready November 4th 2020 if Joe Biden wins
Oxford previously told Congress they expect to have some “emergency doses” available by September or October. They’ve been quite successful in phase 1 and phase 2 clinical trials. Phase 3 underway now. Manufacturing of hundreds of millions of doses already underway in parallel thanks to President Trump. He knows this all ends when the vaccine comes out. And I think the announcement of approval in the US is going to be his October surprise.
Goodbye Biden!
I’m not an anti-vaxxer at all. Not even. Polio and lots of other good things have happened. But they can go take a flying leap on this one. It’s a political coup virus, and Gates and Fauci (*the population reduction brothers) stand to make billions on their snake oil slap-dash Chinese researched cure that is being RUSHED to market.
Wouldn’t touch this with a ten foot pole.
My buddy had one last week. He’s in a study. He’s my canary in the coal mine. If he starts looking like Sloth from Goonies, I’ll let y’all know.
They get better pricing if they buy for the whole empire.
Ready?...When EUGENICISTS say its ready. No hurry. The LOCKDOWN protocol has been set. Introduce whenever. Let them introduce themselves...

Well said.
As my tagline indicates I’m a vaccine skeptic.
But you don’t have to be an anti-vaxxer or a vaccine skeptic to realize that something is rotten in the state of Denmark here.
They’re already in the last stage of human trials for safety and efficacy testing. They’ve said this particular one might be approved by October. It’s on track to be the fastest vaccine development program in the history of humanity. What are your expectations? Disease discovered on Monday and vaccine at CVS on Wednesday or it’s a failure?
The first major polio outbreak in the US was in 1894. The first polio vaccine wasn’t approved in the US until 1955; 61 years later. President Trump can streamline processes and get Federal red tape out of the way, but the man can’t work miracles or time travel. 7 months from discovery to phase 3 clinical trials of multiple vaccine candidates will just have to do.
Makes no difference to me; I won’t be taking it.
I don’t know about Fauci’s investments, but Bill Gates has no stock in vaccine makers. He donates money (via grants) through his foundation, but the stock holdings are all for things like Walmart and Coca Cola. The SEC filings are right here: https://sec.report/CIK/0001663801
Oxford and Moderna could sell 7 billion doses of their vaccines and Gates wouldn’t see a dime. And neither Oxford nor Moderna nor most of the other over 200 vaccine candidates are from China. Oxford University is British and AstraZeneca is a British-Swedish company. Moderna is headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
These are western nation companies beating a virus that came from China; NOT a Chinese drug or vaccine. And they aren’t being rushed to market, they just aren’t being held up by the usual red tape. They still have to go through phase 1 clinical trials, phase 2 clinical trials, AND phase 3 clinical trials. Same as every other drug or vaccine brought to market in the US. By the time it reaches any pharmacy in the US, it’s been tested on tens of thousands of volunteers over the course of several months.
Agree. I’m not an anti-vaxxer, but I do have growing concerns about the sheer number of vaccines out there and the Kings-X legal immunity pharma gets from lawsuits.
Open minded on the question, but like I said... this one is a no go for me.
