He summarized that witnesses told APD a vehicle began honking its horn as it turned south onto Congress Avenue from 4th Street. He said the vehicle stopped “as there were a large number of people in the roadway.”
Manley said that Foster, who was holding an AK47-type assault rifle, approached the driver side window of this car as others in the crowd began striking the car.
“Gunshots were fired from inside the vehicle at Mr. Foster,” Manley said. “During the initial investigation of this incident, it appears Mr. Foster may have pointed his rifle at the driver of this vehicle prior to being shot.”
Another individual told APD that after that first volley of gunfire and seeing the car drive away from the crowd, they drew their concealed handgun and fired multiple shots at the car. Manley said this individual was also brought to the homicide office to be interviewed, and this individual’s handgun, along with Foster’s rifle, were also taken into evidence.
Both the driver of the vehicle who fired at Foster and the individual who fired at the car later on have been released “pending further investigation,” Manley said. He also noted that both people have concealed handgun licenses.

If the 2A supporters had violated the law, taken over the roads and waved their weapons in people’s faces, then you’d be spot on with that bizarre grasping at anything to claim some kind of equivalence.
I don’t believe that account at all. From what I have read there have been multiple persons stating the driver in the car was fired upon.

Never point a firearm at anything you don’t intend to shoot, and assume all firearms are loaded. The driver followed those rules while surrounded by a mob in the street and a goon with a rifle at his driver side door. The goon made decisions, and his actions had consequences.
If you walk out of your home with a firearm (open or concealed carry) you are making some decisions one way or another that will impact your life and the lives of people around you. Your decisions either increase the likelihood of someone using a firearm, or you decrease the likelihood — dramatically and immediately. If you’re carrying openly to make a political statement, and if that statement includes a taunt to your opponents calling them “a bunch of pussies”, you’re pretty safely not on the side of deescalation. What goals does this guy have other than being a part of a firefight or bullying the opposition into silence?
Taking point and brandishing a rifle on what any reasonable person would understand to be an attempted carjacking just underscores that fact. Maybe he didn’t point the AK at the driver, bit he did know he was carrying a firearm and he was at the driver’s side door of a car surrounded by a street mob.
