Good pick. I think Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts deserve a mention here for their iconic brand of music that has endured for decades.

Almost impossible task - enough superior teams for a number of genres means personal tastes come into play and it becomes subjective rather than objective...I love so much of the music, especially from the 90s and earlier that I couldn’t even begin to decide.

You have to distill it by era because one musical era cant be compared to another. You cant compare Gilbert/Sullivan to Gershwin Brothers to Rogers/Hammerstein to Lennon/McCartney.

Not a huge Zeppelin fan
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
I’m not either but I’ve come to recognize what I can only call the genius of Jimmy Page.
In every category of music there is at least one band or artist that sounds somewhat like another.
I’ve never heard anything that sounds like the music Jimmy Page wrote. It would be one thing if it was junk, but even not being a giant fan when I’m in the mood I find Zeppelins music to be indescribably extraordinary.

Lieber and Stoller!!!
Completely forgot those two.
They’d be second on my list.
After Lennon & McCartney.

Wow, haven't heard the names Ferrante and Teicher in a long time. Got to see a concert of theirs in 1966, they helped shape my love of music. I was only 14 at the time.
