Asthma Medicine, Budesonide Hailed as Effective Treatment for COVID-19

Budesonide, a medicine used to help prevent the symptoms of asthma, is being touted as the “silver bullet” for COVID-19.

Budesonide, a corticosteroid or steroid, reduces the severity of asthma attack by preventing inflammation in the lungs and can be inhaled directly to the lungs using a nebulizer. Daily use of inhaled budesonide reduces the number and severity of asthma attacks, although it cannot provide relief from an asthma attack that is already underway.

Dr. Richard Bartlett, a US doctor, believes that budesonide, otherwise known as the brand name Pulmicor, can successfully treat the coronavirus. Dr. Bartlett claims to have used inhaled, generic budesonide to cure several COVID-19 patients who have vouched for his treatment.

Now, researchers from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT Brisbane, Australia) and the University of Oxford (Oxford, UK) are collaborating to test common asthma inhalers as a treatment for COVID-19 infection. The STOIC (STerOids In COVID-19) trial will look at whether asthma inhalers given to people with early stage COVID-19 can reduce progression of respiratory illness and cut emergency department presentations and hospital admissions. Some patients will be given budesonide, while others will be given a placebo.

Recruitment for the trial has begun and the researchers will be coordinating trial data analysis, modelling of pathological mechanisms and building COVID-19 maths models to explain and use the clinical trial data to optimize patient treatment. Mathematical modelling by the STOIC study team suggests that the earlier the inhaled steroid treatment is applied, the more people can be stopped from becoming sick.

“Ideally it may be that the corticosteroid therapy would be given to anyone with a new, dry cough, and while they are awaiting their COVID test results,” said associate Professor Nicolau, from the QUT Science and Engineering Faculty School of Mathematical Sciences.

I have taken this drug every day, twice a day for years, and had to educate my lung doc on this little fact. The docs are totally ignorant of any treatment option other than the one dictated to them by the deep state.

I wodner if other, non steroidal Asthma meds will work like Albuterol- I’ve seen articles stagnation that Albuterol is given to patients with severe covid when in the hospital- but nothing about whether it will prevent people in early stage covid from needing to go to hospitals in the first place

I take Dulera for the same reasons. Many years ago, I was prescribed Aero-Bid, another steroid inhalant.
The Dulera does help lessen frequency and severity of my asthma episodes. Another thing I like about it, is Dulera does not seem to make me gain weight. That’s the last thing I need help with.

This one is worthy of widespread dissemination.

It’s about $200 total which is higher than HCQ + Zn, but far, far lower and more effective than than a vaccine.

RE: This one is worthy of widespread dissemination.

Yes, but not by Trump, unless we want to see an effective treatment sabotaged again by the usual haters.

I’m thankful to see they are already recruiting for a trial and with existing treatments and a placebo arm. Hopefully , we can actionable results within a reasonable amount of time.

I used to take Pulmicort for my asthma and it worked like a charm. A few years ago I developed a terrible cough and shortness of breath and the Pulmicort just couldn’t get it under control. My allergist put me on Symbicort which also contains
budesonide and it’s been wonderful. Knock wood, I forget I’ve got asthma and he’s amazed at my lung function.

"far lower and more effective than than a vaccine."

Which vaccine are we talking about? What is its rate of effectiveness, how much does it cost, and where is it currently available for purchase in the US?

Random speculation does nobody any good.

Budesonide should be considered as a companion treatment with HCQ, as is the case with azithromycin. It looks like BUD may keep the cytokine storm in check. With all these therapies, HCQ, Zn, AZT, BUD, the earlier the treatment begins, the better the result.

Yes, a good combination - HCQ+Zn+AZT early or if covid-19 not verified until hospitalization, BUD.

These are effective therapeutics and if under a doctor's care don't let them dictate something else.

I have a friend who got sick with pneumonia at the end of February, after traveling out of the country. He was wildly sick for a week or more. Fever, aches, chills, cough that developed into trouble breathing. The news about CoVid was just hitting and there were no tests available. He was tested for strep and the flu, and both of those were negative. His doctor gave him a steroid shot, an albuterol inhaler, and an antibiotic. He began to recover finally, and broke his fever about 5 days after starting that treatment. We all think he had CoVid, but I haven’t been back in touch to find out if he’s gotten an antibody test yet.

yeah that person shoudl get a test- simple blood test- a bit expensive- but insurance shoudl cover it- Which reminds me i gotta call on my results for the virus- doubt i had it, because we didn’t get high fever, or ‘dry cough’ (Our coughs were wet coughs), but - We had what we called ‘The Crud’ twice starting around March- Slight fever, sore throat, diarrhea, chills for days, dizzy, coughing- but not bad- nauseous, very weak and tired- got it twice- was quite sick both times- Doc just recently did the blood test- will be interesting to see if we had it or not-

AstraZeneca is soaring and I am not certain this is a good buy.

I am a big believer in Ford right now, especially under $7 and with this Bronco line.

I’d be interested in hearing what your blood test shows. Im doing an informal anecdotal survey of people I know with CoVid symptoms at the right time. So far all have been negative on the antibody test.

well, this is interesting- had the test done awhile back, along with a couple of other tests- which i got results for all of them- except virus one— didn’t get call from the docs to discuss results on virus test- just figured it would take awhile- so i just called health center- no results yet- lab apparently never sent results to the doctors- but nurse is calling the lab- hopefully will know tonight- will post back if i get a reply-
