Deodorants vs. Antiperspirants: Benefits & Risks
Health Line ^

Posted on 07/10/2020 3:01:45 PM PDT by CondoleezzaProtege

The aluminum-based compounds in antiperspirants — their active ingredients — keep sweat from getting to the surface of the skin by blocking the sweat glands.

There’s a concern that if the skin absorbs these aluminum compounds, they can affect the estrogen receptors of breast cells.

However, according to the American Cancer Society, there’s no clear link between cancer and the aluminum in antiperspirants because:

Breast cancer tissue doesn’t appear to have more aluminum than normal tissue.

Only a tiny amount of aluminum is absorbed (0.0012 percent) based on research on antiperspirants containing aluminum chlorohydrate...

Antiperspirants and deodorants work in different ways to reduce body odor. Antiperspirants work by reducing sweat. Deodorants work by increasing the skin’s acidity.

Deodorants are formulated to eliminate armpit odor but not perspiration. They’re typically alcohol-based. When applied, they turn your skin acidic, which makes it less attractive to bacteria.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA)Trusted Source considers deodorants to be cosmetic: a product intended to cleanse or beautify. It considers antiperspirants to be a drug: a product intended to treat or prevent disease, or affect the structure or function of the body.

I can’t use antiperspirants. I got a really nasty staph infection due to clogged pores.

I’ve never put much stock in deodorants. They don’t stop the sweat.

Anti perspirants are more effective.

The solution is to tape a 1/2” copper elbow under each arm to contain odors.

George Carlin also recommended a bay leaf but you smell like soup.

I remember Katy winters. I heard she died of frozen armpits.

A blonde walked into a pharmacy and asked the druggist for some deodorant for her boyfriend.

”Do you want the ball type?” he asked.

”No,” she replied, “the underarm stuff will be fine.”

haven’t needed those products since college - no odor no need despite eating lots of garlic and onions - besides they disrupt the natural flow of fluid needed to cool skin. It may be that all those products sealing skin pores cause odor unless used.

Get Caldesene baby powder with zinc oxide. You don’t stink, and it kills coronavirus, too!

My dad smeared Arrid extra dry aluminum cream on himself every day for decades. Died of Alzheimer’s. Don’t do aluminum.

Jovan Musk three-ounce stick, in red-orange cylinder, made by COTY, bar code 35017 02288, discontinued long ago.

Must get the original, not the revised formulation.

Absolutely the best. Nothing even comes close.
