Is a backlash coming?
Vanity | July 2, 2020 | Bort

So I was at my gym this morning in central Maryland. I'm chatting with this guy who asks me if I was on last night's conference call with the alumni from the local (and very expensive) private school (I am a public school person). I live in an affluent suburb that used to vote 3 to 1 Republican, but now is more like 50-50 as the younger, affluent whites trend towards socialism. Anyway, this guy (and others on the call) was irate because the handful of black alumni from this school were on the call, calling for the headmaster's resignation, claiming the school was racist, etc....

Bottom line: The impression I am getting is that our worthless, soft, liberal and moderate Republicans are not happy about being called racists, etc., and they are not happy about the riots/protests, etc. BTW, this private school bends over backwards for minorities, most of whom could not get in either based on grades or finances. My question: Is anybody else noticing a backlash among non-political folks?

I run a weird facebook page for a clown character I play at a theme park — it isn’t one of those ‘like’ pages though, the character just has a page, and has friends.

Anyway, that means I have people running the political gambit, and I get their posts. And there are actually a good number of people who are still comfortable posting “all lives matter” and putting up confederate flags. But I also see a lot of comments on liberal friend’s pages, that suggest there are a lot more people who are fed up with this stuff, but are kind of afraid to come out too publicly and get cancelled.

So, unless the democrats manage to find a way to make voting public, I feel like we might see some surprises at the ballot box. Of course, democrats are working overtime to suppress republican voters, threatening to get people fired from work even if they vote republican.

This will be the test. At some point they have to get off the fence. Observe all the details closely and pretend you are Columbo.

I'm seeing some of that in MA. The Karens are still shrill, but there seem to be more people voicing frustration with how out of control things are getting -- not just violent riots, but the endless accusations and ceaseless demands. I think people are tired of it.

The media is pushing the idea that society has now completely fallen apart and that it's all Trump's fault, and I don't think that idea is selling well. People can spot the real troublemakers.

I agree with you there. They adopted a name for their movement that implied they were seeking reasonable things (i.e. let’s examine how not to hire cops who would kneel on a man’s neck for eight minutes) and have gone on to do nothing but demand unreasonable things. I see the woke bimbo who posted to social media that she was going to stab the next person who says All Lives Matter has been fired. So yes, it’s beginning.

My nephew -the least political person in our family-finally KNOWS who the primary personalities are. He knows who has failed, who has been creating discord, who has been lying and what their lies have done. HE’S real Pi*&ed!!

THAT’S saying something because we all walked around on tip toe when talking politics around him, before. Now he’s real sick and tired of it.

Yes, unfortunately Maryland is a lost cause. I have lived in 5 different states, all of which were less affluent than Maryland. Never heard one person say: “I want to leave this state!” By contrast, I hear that every damn day in Maryland. Beautiful state. Very affluent. But the Democrats have made this state a s***hole.

you know what they say a liberal who gets mugged turns into...

all these outrages people see on TV and see in the companies and organizations they are involved in are sort of a “mugging in absentia” upon them and has an effect

‘My question: Is anybody else noticing a backlash among non-political folks?’

YES. My non-political GF who voted for Hillary in 2016 is voting for President Trump in November.

She HATES talking about politics and really hates how President Trump is just constantly attacked and not allowed to do his job.

She doesn't like some of the things he says but likes what he does. I think she's pretty typical of many these days.

My question is how does anybody know how someone votes in a general election? You don’t declare anything publicly in a general election. It isn’t a primary where you have to declare party affiliation to vote on one side of the political spectrum or the other.

how many people will vote for Trump but will proclaim their support for Biden before and after they cast their vote because their peer group demands that everyone be against Trump?

I bet there are lots of people in this position, and I wonder what we should call such people, perhaps “the hidden silent majority”

I think there’s a lot of pent-up anger with people feeling helpless right now to do much about it but will forcefully punch the ballot for Donald Trump in November

I know that this is happened to me in the past I get so tired of somebody that I emphatically vote And then emerge from the polling place feeling much better
