Steve Bing, a producer, philanthropist and screenwriter, has died by suicide in Los Angeles. He was 55.
Police and the coroners office said a man fitting his age jumped from a Century City apartment building on Monday. Sources told TMZ he had been suffering from depression.
Bing, who inherited a fortune of some $600 million from his grandfather, L.A. real estate developer Leo S. Bing, also contributed millions of dollars to Democratic political causes.
In 2003, he co-wrote the action comedy Kangaroo Jack, and he also contributed to Missing in Action and wrote an episode of Married With Children.
Bing invested some $80 million in The Polar Express, the Tom Hanks-voiced 2004 film directed by Robert Zemeckis. He had executive producer credits on a number of films and music documentaries, including Rolling Stones documentary Shine a Light, directed by Martin Scorsese, CSNY/Deja Vu, Rock the Kasbah, Get Carter, Rules Dont Apply, Girl Walks Into a Bar and a Jerry Lee Lewis documentary that is in the works.
His political contributions, in addition to the Democratic Party, have included Al Gore, Gavin Newsom, Hilary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi and Dianne Feinstein.
Bing had relationships with Elizabeth Hurley, with whom he had a son, Damian, and with Kira Bonder, a former tennis player with whom he had a daughter, Kira. Both women filed paternity suits to compel Bing to disclose his parenthood, and both found that he was the father.
"Kangaroo Jack" wasn't that bad.
Maybe his depression was a result of realizing the error of his ways.
Some, yes.
All your organs and fluids are contained by your epidermis and muscle tissue.
From a significant height, it would be like a watermelon when contact is made with a solid surface.
What a shame. All that money and still a miserable, wasted life. Prayers for a misguided soul.
Bing was an amoral scumbag. He financed all sorts of leftist, anti western projects and was a lecher. He was a mini Soros. Good riddance. He was a worthless, wicked devil and the world is worse off because of his time on earth.
Should have donated to chastity.
“Clinical depression doesnt depend on your situation.”
As someone posted earlier it is a horrible disease but clinical depression is treatable. The problem is that the current drugs take 2-4 months to work apparently because it takes a long time for them to cross the blood-brain barrier. In the mean time they tend to make you feel worse sometimes. It is a tragic irony. If you ever are given anti-depressants for depression give them time.

Suicide or Arkancide?
The meaningless despair of the Godless. No God, no purpose, no nothing. Might as well die.
Well he caused a lot of misery with his donations...maybe he finally felt some guilt...
If only all the rest of the socialist self anointed know-it-alls in Hollywood would follow his fine example of exiting the scene.
inherited a fortune of some $600 million from his grandfather.
I guess money did not buy him happiness....
Damian Hurley looks like a girl.

Q: What sound is made when a Hollywood rich kid jumps out of a high-rise window?
“No God, no purpose, no nothing. Might as well die.”
The guy was a wealthy loser. He donated to the Culture of Death and then died young. Pitiful person. Hell is a place where people stand on maggots and hear screams forever. Don’t go there. Say one Hail Mary every day.
I’d rather be poor knowing Jesus than filthy rich without Him.
But depression is a monster. I can only imagine his battles. I suffer from depression too. It’s very sad.
God Bless you, DG. May your troubles be light.
I know he was a lousy father, but I feel bad for his children. Suicide is a horrible thing to do to the living who have to deal with the aftermath.
That explains the motive for his suicide.
