Cruise industry suspends sailings until September

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) on Friday announced that all U.S. cruise lines it represents have agreed to voluntarily suspend voyages until Sept. 16 or later. CLIA represents dozens of cruise lines, including brands owned by South Florida's publicly traded cruise companies.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) no-sail order for cruising is set to expire July 24. However, out of an abundance of caution, the association decided to push back the relaunch date of more than 25 cruise lines in the U.S.

"Although we had hoped that cruise activity could resume as soon as possible after [July 24], it is increasingly clear that more time will be needed to resolve barriers to resumption in the United States," CLIA's statement read.

There should be cruse ships offered for sale at bargain prices. (cruise lines might actually pay you to take ships off their balance sheet.)

Yesterday CARNIVAL announced it is going to sell 6 cruiseships ,not named,

That is a sign of the struggles the Cruise Lines are having.

I wonder what they did with the people who live full time on the ship. Apparently there was a portion who live on the ship as it was cheaper then living in a 55+ community.

Over the past month I watched a good dozen ships leave the Caribbean and make their way east to South Africa. On to India, Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Borneo, Malaysia, all bringing workers home.

I read through the study - they didn’t get all the available information (maybe they didn’t ask), but I agree that it looks less like the recirculated air and more like people being packed together. Same conclusion for me though, I’ll let others be the guinea pigs if this business restarts!
