Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) on Friday announced that all U.S. cruise lines it represents have agreed to voluntarily suspend voyages until Sept. 16 or later. CLIA represents dozens of cruise lines, including brands owned by South Florida's publicly traded cruise companies.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) no-sail order for cruising is set to expire July 24. However, out of an abundance of caution, the association decided to push back the relaunch date of more than 25 cruise lines in the U.S.
"Although we had hoped that cruise activity could resume as soon as possible after [July 24], it is increasingly clear that more time will be needed to resolve barriers to resumption in the United States," CLIA's statement read.

I figure our inept incompetent CDC would continue to screw things up for the Cruise Lines as they have for our States.-Tom
STUPID!!! TOTALLY STUPID!!!! The CDC IS A DEMOCRAT ENCLAVE!
I wouldn’t step foot on a cruise ship before covid-19 and I certainly wouldn’t do it now.
Have all the ships been emptied out or are there still some quarentine ships with passengers or crew trapped on them?
} I agree. Some twit in CDC sent an email to the Prophet and realized an opportunity to slow the recovery and the masses in line, hovering in their basement ( oh wait, that’s whats his name,} This delay will literally kill a number of cruise lines as well as the markets in and near the ports that were relying on the tourist dinero just to survive.
This is going to hurt the cruise industry just like the airlines.
How long can you mothball a cruise ship before you go broke?
I was on a Carnival cruise ending on Feb 29, 2020 and can’t wait to go again in September. I added up the number of days I have spent on cruise ships beginning in 1988, and it is 238 total days sailing the oceans. Easily the most enjoyable and fun time in my life.
We are to supposed to be on a two week alaskan cruise out of l.a. they cancelled was are still waiting for out $25,000 dollar refund
I just read somewhere there are thousands of crew still stranded on ships. That is ridiculous. Young people have close to zero death rate from covid-19. Influenza has a higher death rate for young people under 35 which is 95% of the cruise ship crew staff.
us too
There should be cruse ships offered for sale at bargain prices. (cruise lines might actually pay you to take ships off their balance sheet.)
WUSS
Going on a cruise is probably the only vacation where virtually everything is done for you. You do whatever you want all day with unlimited food and drinks.
I prefer to sit poolside with a good book and a never-ending supply of umbrella drinks. After an early morning 3 mile walk around all the ship decks.
I’m happy you enjoy it so much. It’s just not my thing. I hope you enjoy your next voyage and stay safe.
These delays are also killing businesses in our States.
Here in Mass. our Never Trumper RINO Governor Charlie Baker is killing businesses with these ongoing shutdowns.- Tom
Expected - it will take one of three things happening before the cruise lines sail again:
1) A vaccine and/or effective treatment is found.
2) The cruise lines figure out that recirculating cabin air spreads the disease - and put an end to it.
3) The world develops herd immunity...in about 10 years, at the current rate of infection.
So far they still haven’t figured out #2 and show no signs of such, so I guess we’ll have to wait until #1 or #3.
Make sure you fill out any paperwork.
for example, NCL is only giving a short time to fill out a form to receive a refund versus cruise credit
I am in a dispute with my credit card company right now over this BS. Waiting on the final decision.
OK, it suspends sailings.
But does it suspend sinkings?
Or collisions?
Or Legionaries outbreaks?
HEY sign up now.
Cruising was on the rise before COVID so a number of cruise lines had paid to have new ships built. This would normally be bad news since they would owe money that they couldn't pay, but some of the shipbuilders have cash on hand so they can allow the cruise lines to be late on their first few payments. Either that or the shipbuilders will go out of business as well.
I believe all the cruise ships have some minimal staff on board keeping them clean and running. Some are being sent into drydock early for more extensive upgrading and maintenance. Others may be sold off or sunk if demand doesn't pick up quickly after the ban is lifted.
“””I wouldnt step foot on a cruise ship before covid-19 and I certainly wouldnt do it now.”””
Ditto that.
