I hadn't been on a cruise in a long time but was thinking about one just before COVID hit. There are a number of great YouTube channels that cover everything you could possibly want to know about cruises in general and the effects of COVID in particular.

Cruising was on the rise before COVID so a number of cruise lines had paid to have new ships built. This would normally be bad news since they would owe money that they couldn't pay, but some of the shipbuilders have cash on hand so they can allow the cruise lines to be late on their first few payments. Either that or the shipbuilders will go out of business as well.

I believe all the cruise ships have some minimal staff on board keeping them clean and running. Some are being sent into drydock early for more extensive upgrading and maintenance. Others may be sold off or sunk if demand doesn't pick up quickly after the ban is lifted.
