Trained Immune systems matter: With COVID-19 we have gone “Bubble Boy” sterilization crazy and it is not helping us

Plans and demands for school reopenings are coming in fast and furious from government and nongovernment organizations alike. Some are hundreds of pages long, requiring a phalanx of Ph.Ds to sort through the details before implementation.

What seems universally clear is that no one is taking into account that the vast majority of us have immensely powerful immune systems that play a critical role in keeping us healthy and alive.

One plan calls for using sanitizing spray on all classroom surfaces multiple times per day, that children use hand sanitizer upon entering and exiting the classroom, and that all children and staff wear masks for the entire school day and of course, ensure social distancing. The bureaucrats at the CDC would be proud of the results.

But all of these “specialists” would have ignored the fact that from the day we are born we are assaulted by germs -- by the millions, if not billions. Our very existence is dependent on a robust immune system -- that is, the ability of our bodies to fight off any invasion of bacteria, viruses, fungus, mold, and other pathogens. Fortunately, we were created with a powerful internal standing army of cells ready to protect us in each battle and capable of winning most wars.

In order for our immune system to be prepared for those battles, it has to train regularly and bring new recruits to the effort. Even before we are born, our immune system is exposed to germs and working to protect us. The result is our body creates germ-specific special ops fighters to defeat a variety of enemies that life throws against us.

Each time we are exposed to new or old germs our immune system grows smarter and stronger. It is healthy and necessary for our very survival, to be exposed to different germs and to recover to fight another day. If we purposely prevent such exposure, we may gain in the short term, but we may also lose in devastating ways in the long term.

This was George Carlin’s standup routine about GERMS and our IMMUNE SYSTEM almost 15 years ago. It was prescient (Warning, F words galore) :

Yes, this makes us more vulnerable to outbreaks, not less vulnerable.

Considering some of the sketchy and very questionable public drinking fountains I used as a kid in the 1970s, that’s probably the source of why I almost never get sick.

The modern world is very rich, and very safe, and very fearful.

The fear largely comes from the fact that we are so rich and so safe.

Actually this should be very simple. People should be informed of the facts. If you are under sixty, and if you become infected, you may become ill but are likely but not guaranteed to recover. Over sixty, especially males, you are more likely to get ill and more likely to die. Then behave in accordance to your needs, realities and desires. Its called freedom. If the government wants to do something constructive, aid people especially older folks who are too frightened or have good reason to stay isolated. These lockdowns create more problems than they solve.

However, the overuse of antibiotics and antiseptic cleaners is impacting our ability to maintain a balance of healthy microbes in our bodies and environments. Studies continue to prove that harmful species will exploit areas with too few good bacteria to fight back. Sterility should not be our goal.

As a kid I routinely drank from garden hoses. We all did.

When I was a kid growing up on a dairy and hog farm, we were exposed daily to any number of pathogens, and you either got tough or died. Inside flush toilets were unheard of, there was the choice of the chamber pot or the privy outside.

And that exposure to a vast array of microorganisms was probably one of the less hazardous things country kids had to deal with.

Yeah, well the state governments caused tons of elderly deaths with their nursing home policies. They are not your friends.

Probably because so many people were sheltered as hell and figured delusionally that there’s a cure for everything in some kind of medicine or vaccine.

There’s plenty of symbiotic microbes that are helpful and important to your body, such as anaerobic bacteria in your intestines that can digest food that your stomach cannot. These bacteria are the reason for you getting gassy sometimes, but they prevent serious issues as well. There’s many many more symbiotic microbes besides that. People need to remember “Bubble Boy” because he both failed and was unfeasible.

This is the reason why the Mrs. said no anti-bacterial in our home, about 15-20 years ago.
All these anti-bacterial are doing is creating super-bugs while weakening our immune systems. A double-whammy.

I’m one of those that doesn’t use anti bacterial anything. I just never saw the need for it. Throughout this CV-19 thing the only thing I’ve done is put a bottle of Purell in my car to use after the grocery store, gas pump, etc.
