An oceanic whitetip shark was found covered in suction-like scars on its side These scars had to have been made by the tentacles of a giant squid species Researchers say its the first evidence of a fight between a shark and giant squid
Until now fights between massive cephalopods and giant sharks were only speculative, due to the fact squids live at over 3,000ft under the ocean surface.
He said while he couldn't say exactly which species, it had to be large.
White dots found on the body of the shark were made by the narrow parts of the tentacle as the squid fought of the massive fish.
Researchers say this could be a sign that whitetips are able to hunt in deeper waters than previously assumed
The shark may have been using pilot whales as a way to detect deeper prey for it to feast upon - and that's when it found the giant squid that left it with scars.
There is a theory that sharks have a particularly fondness for giant squid meat, with researchers claiming they are seen hanging out in an empty patch of ocean.

Why do I think we’re getting into Chuck Norris territory, except substitute President Trump for Chuck Norris?
Shark lives matter?
I guess the shark won.
Large Squid rise to shallower waters to hunt at night. It's more likely that a squid attacked the shark then. They are very aggressive.

Pure speculation. I doubt that this has ever been observed.
There is a theory that sharks have a particularly fondness for giant squid meat, with researchers claiming they are seen hanging out in an empty patch of ocean.
That may be true, but being cold-blooded sharks may have a problem digesting any food that they may catch in shallower waters. From an energy standpoint, why would a shark 'invest' that much to search for food that they can't really detect all that easily and where their intended prey can turn the tables on them?
... meant to say “deeper waters” with regard to the shark’s digestion.
Who is the genius that posted a pic of an octopus in a story about a squid?

Sea bearsll get ya.
I’m intrigued by animal fights in the wild. Nobody seems to want to F with a hippo or a rhino. Elephant about the only one willing to mix it up with either. Unless in numbers, Lions run from Rhinos like antifa at the sight of Hell’s Angels dudes.
Still wonder about the empty patch of ocean. Sharks could feed on squid coming up at night, but it would seem that the squid would be coming up to eat sharks, if the area is otherwise empty. That would make the noted sounds more common, it seems to me. Unless the sharks and squid are feeding mostly on pieces of the ones that do get into battles.
A species of giant squid called the Humboldt squid sometimes makes into the waters off Southern California. They’re about one to two feet long and are fun to catch. To catch them, you need a squid jig, a plug that is studded with spikes, because a fishhook will slip through the squid’s flesh.
When you hook a squid, it will fight back by squirting you with a jet of seawater and when you get it on board the boat, it will squirt you with ink. They’re edible, but not as good as other species of squid.
Having testicle marks from a giant squid must be very painful.
