At a blood donation bank in Cologne, western Germany, empty bags sit ready to be filled. A few forms, a quick measure of blood pressure, a scratch on the arm, and seven minutes later donors have made their 500-ml contribution to the 15,000 blood donations needed every day in Germany. The footfall of donors, now wearing face masks due to the coronavirus pandemic, is steady, but not fast enough.
Germanys blood reserves are running low. Under usual circumstances, the German Red Cross (DRK) which covers two-thirds of Germanys blood supplies would aim to have enough blood reserves for four to five days. Storage in some of Germanys 16 states currently holds as little as one days supply. [ ]
Despite the desperate need for more blood reserves, restrictions that stem from bans imposed during the 1980s HIV/AIDS epidemic mean many men are still excluded from donating.
Under the Hemotherapy Guidelines, published by the German Medical Association (BÄK), homosexual and bisexual men are only allowed to donate blood if they have abstained from sexual intercourse with a man for 12 months. Until 2017, a complete ban was in place.
Statistics confirm that men who have sex with men are more often affected by HIV than others. But this does not justify a blanket exclusion, says Germanys AIDS Organization. [ ]
With blood reserves dwindling, the pressure to reform the restrictions is mounting. In April, the Prout at Work foundation published an open letter signed by a total of 13 companies including METRO, IKEA, Microsoft and Deutsche Bahn calling on the German government and medical authorities to ease restrictions. The proposal is based on the British and Canadian examples, where the deferral period was reduced to three months in 2017 and 2019 respectively.

Can a man be an L?
Can a man be a +?
Is there much difference between a T and G when both are having sex with homosexual men?
And while B go “both ways” they still have sex with homosexual men.
Since they have expanded the definition of GBLT+ to include “asexuals” and “neuters” does this mean that people who abstain from sex also should be barred from donating blood?
Why is the ability of donating blood do important to gays?

Welp... None from nuns then....
[ Why is the ability of donating blood do important to gays? ]
Pride, one of the deadly sins...
They spend all their time trying to prove to the world that they are natural, normal, happy, and made the way they are.
However, no marriage rights, no adoption rights, no gay positive movies, suppression of FBI records regards pedophilia rates, psychologist telling them they are normal, government trying to recruit more of them, the military admitting them or lawyer attacking a cake maker makes them feel better. Deep down inside, they still feel like the perverted weirdos they are even if society celebrates their sexual activity like it’s an act of heroism and valor.
Are there that many men in Germany having sex with other men that it would make a big difference in the blood supply??
No thank you. They are tainting the entire blood supply.
I can’t donate blood because I went to Europe in 1984 and they’re worried about the human version of Mad Cow disease. It’s a real shame because I am a type 0, the universal donor type.
I don’t think it is. It’s just a statement about how normal they are.
What could possibly go wrong?
Isn’t this how Haiti helped to ramp up HIV in the US back in the 1980s?
A contaminated German blood supply would trigger a bunch of patients to look for surgical care in Poland or Czech...if they can’t trust the blood supply.
What a completely evil thing to do.
Cologne Germany is basically their San Francisco, it's a homo's dream city. There are a lot of them in Cologne.
Why are blood reserves low?
Are blood reserves actually low?
What other reasons would there be for this action to be desired?
The fashionable post-donation t-shirts.
No, but this lie is still proffered that dropping the ban would add a gazillon units of life saving blood to the supply.
Regardless of the men-with-men sex problem, homosexual men often represent whole clusters of other disqualifiers to donate, which they will then attack irrationally when their MSM ban in removed. How many of them have had sex with someone who is HIV-infected, or whose HIV status they dont know? How many of them have had recent infections with other disqualifying STDs, such as gonorrhea, syphilis and chlamydia, or who have had sex with men whose STD status they dont know (such as through the disgusting hook-up apps?) How many of them have injected recreational drugs in the past year? How many are on PrEP, which would mask an infection of HIV for a longer window period than is currently recognized? How many claim they are monogamous which the skewed, dishonest definition of monogamy that this culture uses?
What is the current German policy about mask-wearing for everyone — are they loosening up that restriction?
