Air Force's Secret Space Plane Is About to Launch Again with Even More Payloads (May 16)

The U.S. Air Force's experimental unmanned space plane is about to take off again, this time with a new attachment near its tail to hold more payloads.

Air Force Secretary Barbara Barrett announced Wednesday that the X-37B Orbital Test Vehicle (OTV) will take off May 16 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida, for its sixth mission, which will incorporate tasks for U.S. Space Force and NASA, among other agencies.

"This important mission will host more experiments than any prior X-37B flight, including two NASA experiments," she told viewers during a conference hosted by the Space Foundation.

One NASA experiment will "study the results of radiation and other space effects on [specific] materials," while the other will research "ambient space radiation" effects on seeds used to grow food, Barrett said.

While the unmanned X-37B belongs to the Air Force, the Space Force will command its upcoming launch, on-orbit operations and eventual return. Under the purview of the Air Force Rapid Capabilities Office, the test vehicle can autonomously re-enter the atmosphere and land on a flight line.

Air Force Secretary Barbara Barrett . . . is this the lady who has never piloted a plane nor having been in combat?

We need to develop a space based , individual human targetable particle beam or laser weapon system . Call it the Global Opposition Destroyer , acronym G.O.D.
Test it out on Nancy Pelosi...small smoking hole , top of the head

IMO, this thing re-loads other spacecraft with supplies.
One item would be small and medium sized rods.
Also neutron detection systems to keep track of emissions from small LEOs that pass over US territory.

Scattering of tiny sats, some small as a dime...some just the circuit board with etched antennae, super cap and tiny solar panel.

A kinetics and detection delivery truck that sometimes delivers exotic loads as well.

Just speculation..of course.

We need a delivery truck for space..and ones for the depths of the oceans as well.

I think it’s awesome we assume Rods from God is operational. And I wouldn’t bet against you. RIP Jerry Pournelle.

Good commentary from Jerry here that gives some history, on a Weekly Standard article he finds lacking in that area.

Always loved this scene from Star Gate when Jack is asked about Earth’s formidable space weapons:

Must be expendable if they are letting NASA run it now instead of maintaining control.

I need a little guidance here, a plane that has an identifying name, has not hidden it’s missions, durations, or it’s accessories, has told of some of the people involved with its sorties and the organization in charge of it, where it takes off and lands, and has more pictures of it than Kristy Brinkley, and it’s a mysterious secret? AF1 doesn’t get that much coverage. Some secret.
