Most New York Virus Patients Had Underlying Health Issue: Study
Epoch Times ^ | 04/23/2020 | Zachary Steiber

Posted on 04/23/2020 10:52:55 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Most patients in New York City hospitalized with the CCP virus suffered from at least one underlying health issue, such as obesity or kidney disease, according to a new study.

Researchers analyzed records from 5,700 patients and found over 56 percent suffered from hypertension. Another 41 percent had obesity, while 33 percent suffered from diabetes.

Ninety-four percent of the patients had more then one disease, according to the study, which was published in the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA).

Patients with diabetes were more likely to require assistance breathing from ventilators, treatment in intensive care units, or develop acute kidney disease.

Of the 2,634 patients for whom outcomes were known, 14 percent were treated in ICUs, 12 percent received invasive mechanical ventilation, and 3 percent needed kidney replacement therapy. Twenty-one percent passed away, including nearly 9 out of 10 of the patients who received mechanical ventilation, including 97 percent for patients 65 or older.

The patients were hospitalized at hospitals run by Northwell Health, the largest academic health system in New York. They were admitted between March 1 and April 4.

About 6 out of 10 patients were male and the median age was 63.

Dr. Karina Davidson, one of the doctors who conducted the study, said in an emailed statement that the research “revealed some surprising results.”

“For example, just one third of the patients triaged had signs of fever. Of those discharged or died, 16 percent were younger than 50. We hope to explore further in our research, including going beyond the data collected from electronic health records to better understand the virus’s effects,” said Davidson, professor and senior vice president at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research.

RE: Most New York Virus Patients Had Underlying Health Issue

Same as the Common Flu. Why am I not surprised?

And what difference does it make?
Are they any less dead?

The percentage of US adults with diabetes hypertension or heart disease is huge. Now add obesity, pulmonary problems and things like cancer.

Is there any truth, on the earth?

Certainly DC is the center of deceit, anymore.

Fixed it.

It makes a huge difference.

The more deaths they can blame on COVID 19 means they can continue the lockdown even longer, and deprive us of our Constitutional Rights.

And the longer they can crash our economy into Great Depression levels so that Socialism will be the “answer”.

Fauxcahauntas’s 86 year old brother just died.

“....he had been diagnosed with cancer years ago and undergone treatment, and was hospitalized for pneumonia in February. He then moved to a rehabilitation center to recover. The family did not identify the center.”

Of course he died of Coronavirus.

The one size fits all response is clearly wrong but our “betters” can’t back down now.

This isn’t really saying much considering at least 78% of people in the United States have an underlying condition.

They will never back down.

They instead will double down. AOC is out there gleefully gloating over the collapse of Big Oil.

And demanding that we all stay unemployed. Let Uncle Sugar pay out unemployment benefits.

And PPP? That is going to big businesses who don’t need it. And small businesses that do need it? If they can get a PPP loan, then they are finding their employees don’t WANT a paycheck. They make more money off unemployment benefits.

And in the meantime - you better wear a mask. Or face a $1,000 fine.

This virus is a lot tougher on people who are really old and/or really fat. Then again, so is time.

What is coming over the next few months is going to make the inconveniences of the quarantine look like a picnic. This is an economic disaster like nothing we have ever seen.

Not the same as the flu (don’t get the flubros started again).

What this means is wherever the ChiCom Virus takes hold those with underlying conditions are most susceptible.

On that front, whether it’s NYC, New Orleans or Philly, we ain’t Sweden.

The underlying illness here is hypertension, obesity and diabetes often more than one.

You think a lot of folks here who haven’t seen this ChiCom Virus much in their vicinity don’t fit that profile?

RE: Not the same as the flu (don’t get the flubros started again).

Nothing to do with being a Flubro. And I am not going to say that it is the same as the flu. I’ll concede it is worse and more infectious.

But there were nearly 80,000 flu deaths in 2018. It is important to know the profile of these deaths. How many of those who died of the fly in 2018 had underlying health conditions? That’s a relevant question to ask.

I suspect the number of ‘Covid’ deaths with a big co-morbidity is more than likely in the 99%ile.

This shutdown is the biggest dream the Left could have thought up! And they are ‘getting things done that they never thought they could get’.

And if the ‘all voting by mail’ is EVER instituted, you can kiss our Republic goodbye. They used ballot harvesting in 2018. 2020 will make 2018 look like the kindergarten playground.

Anyone who dies now, anyone at all, is being recorded as a Covid death.

Perhaps the data could be used to determine who should be quarantined. Instead of locking up the nation they could put out a warning to those affected at high rates and suggest they self quarantine.

Not that many people die from hypertension by having respiratory symptoms. I may have a stroke, a coronary, kidney failure. I think the study showing seniors with hypertension dying of corona is just mirroring the extent of hypertension in the US especially in the 65+. Corona killed them . They also had hypertension.
There is also the possibility that hypertensive taking ACE inhibitors or ANG receptors may experiencevtye virus having easier entry to the cells of the lungs.
