IIRC, Smithfield has been shipping pork to China to process & send back for quite a while
Who authorized the sale in the first place?
Time to have a conversation about China controlling these companies? Look at interviews and statements from our President for better than 30 years about China.
The rest of the so called experts are johnny come latelys
Now we are paying the price ,but don’t blame President Trump,REELECT HIM,and tell Biden, his son,China loving traitors to take a hike
I will not be buying any Smithfield products in the future unless they corporation becomes American in ownership..
Likewise I do not buy fish products raised or caught in any Asian country, including Red China.... bad for your health.
The inmates are in charge now.
Thats what you do with foreign owned infrastructure in time of war, and I never thought that I would see so many people on Free Republic not understand that biological warfare is still warfare...and be willing to argue some esoteric vagueality that it isn’t war.

You are decades late to the game.
You can not be unaware that there have been a whole lot of people opposing this since the Chinese first started investing.
There might be a change in the meat industry, but demand will jerk the supply chain to adjust for it. A free market system has reflexes; socialism does not.
Agreed, nationalize them!!
Cargill in High River just closed. 2000+ employees and approx 400 have CCP-Coronavirus. One has died and another is on ventilation. I haven’t been out to the grocery stores but I expect a run on beef!
Do you have a problem with this?
If so why?
The health and well being of the American people come before the interests of foreign owners.
The business can be sold to Americans and the foreign owners paid a fair price. After it is established that they have no liability.
Clearly not enough. With anything insidious, its always a minority view speaking up against the predicted threat, but people are swayed by big popular opinions and most just go along like sheep for the quick fix.
Smithfield (CCP owned) employees in South Dakota caught the CCP virus shortly after one of their CCP overlords skirted Trump’s wise USA travel restrictions on flights from Communist China.
“The visit took place roughly a month after President Donald Trump had banned travel from China”
Pig farmers in the USA should sue Smithfield and its CCP managers by name.
I got 5 lb. of 80-20 hamburger meat from Kroger this morning. I should have picked up more but I did not want to hoard.
How about make it illegal for foreigners, or foreign owned companies to own land, homes or businesses in the US? Sure, you can be a silent partner, we will allow you a 10% stake and no vote allowed in board meetings.
Obama authorized the sale of Smithfield.
“The 2013 purchase of Smithfield Foods by WH Group was at the time the largest acquisition of a U.S. company by a Chinese firm. The purchase made WH Groupknown as Shuanghui International at the timethe worlds largest pork producer. The takeover was approved by the Obama administration.”
“fish products raised or caught in any Asian country’
I almost bought some ‘Louisiana Brand’ crawfish a few years ago. From Taiwan in small letters on the package. I put it back.
Do you even understand what it means to ‘nationalize’ a company? It means government takeover.
Nationalize them.
Just like china did to our mask factories there.
