First, let's talk a bit about zinc. It is an essential mineral for one's health. We cannot live without it. But we dont need very much. About 15 mgs a day will do. Zinc is important in wound healing, the functioning of our immune system, eyesight, brain development, the proper functioning of sperm and the synthesis of testosterone. (The latter might explain the traditional belief that oysters possess aphrodisiac properties due to their high zinc content). Even our senses of smell and taste depend on enzymes that include zinc in their molecular structure.
The possibility of zinc having antiviral activity was first noted in 1980 when doctors, more on a lark than anything else, treated a 3-year old girl with a 50 mg zinc gluconate tablet to try to boost her immune system because of chronic colds. She refused to swallow the tablet but did suck on it as if it were candy. Her symptoms resolved! This prompted a number of studies on the value of zinc supplements in alleviating the common cold. The trials have been split down the middle, with some showing an improvement in symptoms and some not. One study, however, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, seemed to shift the playing field in favor of the supplements.

A penny for your thoughts?
BTW, there isn't a penny coin in American currency.
bkmk
If she can “suck the copper off a penny,” I’d like to meet her.
Yup
The singer’s quick assistance with a sore throat. Zinc lozenges.
Can’t hurt. But I bet they cannot be found. So chicken soup, but the Jewish version, not the Italian. The secret is in the copious amount of chicken fat in Bubbe’s though Nonna’s tastes better.
I heard that Bryer’s Mint Chocolate Ice Cream helps prevent Coronavirus.
Okay, i made that up.
I am still going to use it as part of my preventative care.
LOL!
“BTW, there isn’t a penny coin in American currency.”
Yes, there is..it’s called a dime.
Dr. Zelenko has stated that hydroxychloroquine acts as a sort of portal for zinc to enter the cells and stop the virus from replicating.
And he knows this how?
Should I follow the same protocol when a bat coughs on me?
You appear to be directing the question to me.
The supplement Quercitin is also a zinc ionophore.
Take both to move zinc into your cells to disrupt the virus.
Thanks.
Zinc tablets pretty much disappeared weeks ago in most places.
I found some though, at my Kaiser-Permanente pharmacy in the OTC section.
Vit D3 is also useful. It has been shown to reduced the incidence of respiratory illnesses. Try 4000 IU to start.
He knows this because he is not a moron and knows how to read.

Ten second web search. Sheesh...
[disclaimers: I'm not a doctor and could be wrong - These are simply observations - but I could be wrong.]
I've been doing a bit of online research about this topic. Here is what I found.
As you know, the treatment being talked about is as follows:
1. hydroxychoroquine with
2. zinc
3. antibiotic z-pacThe Malaria drug Hydroxychoroquine is proving to be effective at stopping infection of Coronavirus, but we don’t know exactly why.
One theory is that it is a zinc ionophore, acting to transport zinc into the cells, where it disrupts the virus.
But don't people have enough zinc already??
Some observations
1. Young people have higher levels of zinc than older people, in general.
"The serum Zn concentration is correlated inversely with age (r=-0.11, p=0.018). Note, the age-dependent deficiency is not necessarily dietary dependent but is rather an absorption issue."
2. Zinc deficiency in those with pre-existing conditions
"COVID-19 associated C.F.R. increases with the presence of comorbidities, can be explained away by the chronic condition induced Zn-deficiency in cancer (5.6% COVID-19 C.F.R.) and diabetes (7.3% COVID-19 C.F.R.) sufferers."Those with chronic conditions: alcohol addiction, cancer, diabetes, ect. also have lower levels of zinc.
3. Those who use an ACE inhibitors have lower zinc levels
"ACE inhibitors may cause zinc depletion. 11,12 The ACE inhibitors captopril and enalapril attach to the trace mineral zinc. Because zinc in this bound form cannot replace the zinc that the body uses to meet its normal needs, a gradual loss of zinc from body tissues may result” (https://www.winchest...rticle?id=21382)
Who is prescribed ACE inhibitors for their medical condition??And of course heart patients are among those dying more frequently from coronavirus infection.ACE inhibitors are a class of medication used primarily for the treatment of high blood pressure and heart failure.
………….
This may be an important indication of the commonality between a number of pre-existing conditions - low zinc levels in cells.
They have zinc deficiency, either caused by age, health condition, disease, or medication they were prescribed.
Again, I'm not a health researcher or doctor, but I find it an interesting coincidence, to say the least.
………..
So if this is true - people with a zinc deficiency are especially affected by COVID19, and the current medical treatment of hydroxychoroquine with zinc makes the symptoms resolve, I again note that among actions of hydroxychoroquine, being a zinc ionaphore (transporting zinc into cells), is crucial.
What if you can't get hydroxychoroquine? Are their other zinc ionaphores??
Yes.
First, the most absorbable forms of zinc are: Ionic Zinc (charged drop form) and zinc picolinate. You will need that.
What can you use as an ionophore to move it into your cells?
Quercitin is a zinc ionophore, transporting zinc into the cells, acting much like hydroxychoroquine, and is an over-the-counter supplement. It is sold on Amazon and in most health stores.
Quercitin also has anti-viral activity against influenza, according to this article:
https://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2018/02/26/quercetin-for-flu.aspx
There is one more important zinc ionaphore you can easily purchase... ECGC.
ECGC comes from Green Tea, and again, easily purchased online or in health food stores as a supplement.
..............
One bonus piece of evidence for your consideration...
There was some news about blood type A being more predisposed to getting a severe case of COVID19 than the other blood types.
Care to guess what mineral type A blood individuals are deficient in....
If you guessed zinc, you are correct. Also magnesium.
……….
Be careful, too much zinc will make you sick and those supplements have much higher zinc content than the RDA. Found out the hard way when 100mg made me projectile vomit in less than an hour.
I don't believe all 699 were infected with the coronavirus. I'm sure some were but we don't know how many.
Read his criteria for treatment and you will see what I mean.
