Ground Reports on the "Deadly" China Virus, please...
Vanity | March 23, 2020 | Vanity

Posted on 03/23/2020 3:20:52 PM PDT by bort

I am calling official B.S. on this hoax of a "pandemic." We have been told by the "scientists" that hospitals would be overrun, the dead would be piling up, etc. Please post "on the ground" reports from your city/state. Are your hospitals overrun? Are healthy people dying? Any signs that a Bubonic Plague is among us?

Unable to speak regarding local hospital situation at this moment. However, DH was scheduled for elective surgery on Friday this week (non life threatening) but was called and told it had to be postponed/rescheduled. No problem here. We would just as soon stay out of hospitals at the moment. Doctors at the medical center treating us - before entering the building you are screened for temperature and asked questions. Until they are assured you are ‘clean’ you will have problems entering. BTW, this is a heart center with nothing but persons with underlying conditions.

Nonsense. There’s plenty of empirical evidence.

Just because nobody you know has died, does not mean nobody died.

The probability that you know someone that died from this is very, very low. The probability that you know someone that has contracted it is also pretty low. Go ahead and calculate the odds if you like.

The whole point of all of this is to keep those numbers low.

The whole world did not conspire to depose Trump by trashing their own economies. It’s real.

“Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, GA is overwhelmed.
Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta is overwhelmed.”

Would like to know your source for this, please.
I am not very far from there.
thanks

Marietta newspaper today is reporting 67 cases in Cobb County. With one out of four needing hospitalization. How small is that hospital?

That’s not necessary.

They piss me off, too, with their heads in the sand and refusal to accept facts, but I don’t think wishing harm on them is appropriate.

“I had it at 7 cases, not 9. Keep in mind that these deceased (whether 7 or 9) did not have access to America’s medical system—they were docked in Japan. And all had significant, underlying conditions. For a super-senior with underlying conditions to be sick at sea with primitive healthcare is not a great situation. Still, very low death rate. If you included teenagers up to 65 year olds, the mortality rate is closer to .1%, not 1.3%.”

It was 7 for a while, but one of the unresolved still in Japan has died, and one of the people brought beck to the US has also died. Still 127 unresolved cases from the ship, so that number can only go up. Again, they were doing many of the things we are being asked to do - it wasn’t an open cesspit.

And Japan has excellent health care in many regards. They would have received the best given the media scrutiny involved. Not all the procedures on the ship were that great, granted, but the issues are way overstated.

So 16 or 17 people in Cobb County-population one million?—went to the hospital? And how many were seen and told to go home?

“1) They were not quarantined originally. There was only a quarantine AFTER people started getting infected.”

True. But before they were all infected.

“2) It’s virtually impossible to quarantine on a ship. The food handlers, the maids, other passengers, etc.”

Not true. And there was slop. But they had prophylactic equipment and procedures in place and mostly stayed in their separate cabins with separate facilities.

“3) They did not have AMERICAN medical care. They were docked in Japan.”

Japan has excellent health care, and the entire world was watching. And one of the ones we brought home to AMERICAN health care also died.

“Bottom line: It’s hard to convince anyone that the China Virus poses a substantial threat the to public when only 7 people died on a cruise ship, all were super-seniors with respiratory issues, and they did not have access to American healthcare.”

Only if they are not willing to listen to the facts.

Looked at local news and do not see this anywhere.
Do you have a source, or just spreading false info?
I am beginning to think you are full of crap.

Those were the symptoms in me!

Was it Corovid-19? I suspect it was. We'll never know.

“Very true. But there’s other ways to gauge their virus problems without using their phony figures.”

Sure. by the numbers of funerals and cremations. By the level of traffic in the affected areas. By the reports smuggled out of the countries by whistle blowers.

Those ways suggest that at least 200,000 died in Wuhan (I stopped bothering with that calculation weeks ago, though, since it seemed pointless), and that there are 10s of thousands dead in Iran. Traffic in Wuhan is at 10-20% of normal levels. They probably haven’t finished unwelding apartment doors yet, though.

There is a reason the Chinese tore up the roads to their main transport hub, a city that once boasted 11 million people, and put a military cordon around it. And it was locked down for two months while the virus ran amok. When did the Chinese ever give a damn about a few thousand dead? Or even a few hundred thousand, especially the useless eaters most vulnerable? This thing scared the crap out of them. They still aren’t sharing necessary information.

Um, wasn’t it you that erroneously pointed out a grammar error that I didn’t actually make?

Or did you simply mean to quote “their” for a clarification of whom I meant and accidentally typed the wrong one?

If the latter, I mistook your intent, sir, and apologize.

I am way past pointing out others’ grammar errors. Unless they point out mine, first. :)

My “hype” is not crashing. My facts are pretty solid. I just want this thing to be over. But recklessness is not going to help anybody, quite the opposite.

“They have to show a few more deaths now because the word is out about China’s three main telecom services losing in the past 2 months 15 million subscribers....all suddenly.”

Interesting, if true. That’s not ridiculously far off Wuhan’s population, and it could be due to censorship. Got a source?

From a nurse in my family..

“I have a friend (fellow nurse) that intubated 15 people in 6 hours tonight”.

But, it’s “just the flu”. Or, “fake news”.

Right.

“The ones that it doesn’t kill will have permanent immunity.”

Apparently, contrary to what I believed, that may not be the case. I asked my doctor friend specifically about one strain giving you immunity to the other strain(s) and he said that it might not. There are two strains out there, with apparently different levels of lethality. That would explain the claims that some people had become reinfected, of which I was highly skeptical. Diseases don’t work that way. But if one strain can get you and then the next one can too, that’s very bad.

Needless to say, I was highly disappointed at having that particular hope crushed. But it does potentially answer some questions.

“As I understand it, South Korea took an isolationist strategy. Their stats look great, but their population hasn’t developed immunity to it, and they won’t be able to maintain an isolationist strategy indefinitely. They can’t act like China of the 15th century.”

True, but containment is still a worthy battle, even if it is ultimately futile. Time is not on our side right now. Slowing this down as much as possible is the best defense we have while we develop and deploy countermeasures.

Your forgetting that the efforts taken in the past weeks are to ‘prevent’ the very things in your post. To prevent hospitals being overrun and the spread....

In this area we’ve had ‘time’ for our Medical facilities to prepare...and they are indeed prepared. Up until Sat we had ‘zero’ cases...... Our Population is about 13,500 people.

Testing ‘just from that location’ at Hospital Drive-Up began last week.... we now have 4 confirmed cases ‘in less then a week’ and not all test results are back yet. It’s just begun here... In fact you need to consider the US has not yet felt the impact...just in the beginnings.....

What we want is our facilities to be able to handle whatever arrives and spreads here.

You can’t compare this to the flu....

Oranges and Apples are both fruit but they are vastly different from each other.....

Take a look at China and Italy....this is what we’re trying to avoid. Heck just look at New York city...thousands there are positive and they’re hospitals are harried trying to keep up...that’s just ‘one’ city in our country.

“Dr. Bird just spoke at Trumps press conference. She didn’t support anything you are saying.”

Really? I listened to the press conference as well. Cite specifics.

I think it matters who was listening.

But mostly I am citing publicly available stats, with some analysis and some speculation. My main sources for numbers are:

primarily, and

on occasion. Plus assorted articles, many of them posted right here on FR. Do you have better, more reliable sources?

Most recent #s from Albany per https://www.albanyherald.com/local/georgia-now-has-confirmed-cases-of-covid—death-toll/article_964e4eab-3196-5848-bf74-c595f15091aa.html. 772 cases in Georgia, only 25 deaths statewide...yes, a spike in positive tests in Dougherty County (Albany), but no deaths today in Albany. Don’t know where you’re getting your stats about “deaths are many”.
