WHAT IF... What if Trump announces a 14-day US quarantine?

We Americans are a contrarian bunch... urban centers are not down for being patient or compliant... The Poor are not going to be able to survive for 14 days with their current resources, and they will not be able to survive a 14-day skip in their pay cycles...

The goal is to get between 3/4 to 7/8 of people to voluntarily choose to isolate. Much more effective to tame viral spread than mandatory quarantine.

I don’t think Trump can and would do this. He can and should close all borders but local non-federal closures need to come from states. Someone posted a great comment about this in an FR thread earlier today.

I work with a very large CPG food company, we have plenty of product and are increasing delivery, if you want to stock up for 4 months go right ahead, and I talked to my counterparts who make toilet paper and there is plenty of supply-they are making their quarterly sales numbers!-the challenge is shipping from warehouses and getting it on the shelf

It slows the spread considerably. It also gives time to move other resources into place; it may completely burn out in some places.

Of course, if we have idiots like that one in Kentucky that is known positive that insists on breaking quarantine, well...

I would never want to stock up for months on tp, just enough for a week or two. It’s the other items we really want such as milk, oatmeal, eggs.

Well then there will be a 14-day quarantine. If you want more than that you'll have to consult a team of science fiction writers, philosophers, religious people, and economists. And after all that, you will not arrive at a consensus, as the future is notoriously hard to predict even when you think you have all the 'facts'.
