I don’t want to lecture you, but you need to eat. Whether you can taste the food or not, you can’t fight without sustenance. I have a friend whose husband beat cancer of the larynx and pharynx several years ago. The radiation killed his salivary glands. He has no spit so his mouth is constantly dry, but he eats because he must, and drinks a lot of liquids to get the stuff down. I’ll keep praying for you Bender.

I have related to you my similar battle with Stage 3 Stomach Cancer. Infusion Chemo with severe side effects (some on going 7 months later), full stomach removal surgery then the last 13 weeks on pill chemo. 75 pound weight loss and not obese — I look like a Shar Pei puppy or a prison camp survivor.
But I am still making each day a new day at following Doctors orders and appear to have completely beaten this terrible affliction.

Go for a walk. Listen to an audio book in the sun with a hat on. Exercise to build appetite. Make your bed by nine AM to avoid getting back in bed. Read every NFL story on Bing. Tackle a new hobby.

If you need me to bang on your head PM me. I will be most happy to help.

Hang in there Danny...

I am reluctant to suggest this, but you might want to consider a field trip to Colorado or Oklahoma for some “appetite stimulant”. It has done wonders for a couple of folks I know that had to go through chemo.

I have not posted for awhile because I have not felt up to it. I have practically no appetite, no sense of taste, nor any energy to do much of anything except lay around watching TV or sleeping 18 hours a day. I've lost 25 pounds and it keeps going down as I cannot force myself to eat anything that has no taste. I keep hoping it will get better, but so far it stays the same. Still, I shall keep on keeping on--

Take care and God Bless--

Danny

Prayers that you will get your strength and appetite back soon, Bender.

Sorry to hear that (but glad to hear from you)

Is no taste a chemo side effect? Cause it’s Corona Symptom #1. :-|

See if any local stores have senior only hours (usually early in the morning).

Considering what I have gone through and with more upcoming surgery, I guess it is not unusual to think about death. I once wrote an whole screenplay about death titled "A Funeral for Paulie." It had Paulie leaving a CD of songs he wanted played at his funeral that told his life. And as the songs played flashbacks told the story of Paulie's life.

I ever did the same thing back some fifteen, twenty years ago when I underwent my first serious surgery. I was just at the age my Father had died, so I was sure it was my time, but I didn't go. So as it seems, neither Paulie's nor my CDs got played.

For the best, I guess, as no one wants to sit through 90 minutes of songs. So as if to boil it down to one, if there has to be a song played at my funeral or memorial, I would want it to be "The Rainbow Connection" as the lyrics hit the spot as I see it this day:

“Why are there so many
songs about rainbows
And what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions,
but only illusions
And rainbows have
nothing to hide
So we've been told,
and some choose to believe it
I know they're wrong,
wait and see
Someday we'll find it,
the rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers,
and me

“Who said that every wish
would be heard and answered
When wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that,
and someone believed it
Look what it's done so far
What's so amazing
that keeps us stargazing
And what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it,
the rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers,
and me

“All of us under its spell
We know that it's probably magic

“Have you been half asleep,
and have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name
Is this the sweet sound
that calls the young sailors?
The voice might be one and the same
I've heard it too many times to ignore it
It's something that I'm supposed to be
Someday we'll find it,
the rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers,
and me--

Been wondering how you were doing. You are still in my prayers every day, right after my kids and just before my preacher.

Don’t be giving up on us, now. Keep drinking those milkshakes or whatever and stay strong.

Are you or were you able to get the outpatient therapy, you needed?

Some of our friends from the midwest and west coast have not been able to get chemo radiation therapy with the shut down hospitals.

Keep us posted.

Now more than 18 months since my diagnosis. It wasn't good. Ureteral Cancer, one to two years. The cancer had spread to my lung, liver, and lymph nodes. I was hooked up with Sloan's expert for this sort of thing. I had six rounds of chemo which ended about 14 months ago. It eliminated all of the metastases. A week from Monday I'm scheduled for surgery to eliminate the original cancerous growth.

That’s a good selection, and it may strike a chord in others’ hearts and minds as they hear it here and then.

A few years ago I was asked to help a deceased friend’s brother with the funeral planning. A number of songs were played before the funeral as people arrived. They weren’t loud or intrusive. For those in the foyer gathering, greeting, consoling and grieving, it faded into the background. And for those sitting quietly in the chapel it provided something relevant of the friend to consider.

But as I hear those some of those songs now and again I still think of that day.

Stay strong.
