U.S.Parents across the nation have expressed their worry, fear, and shock at having to raise their own children now that government schools have temporarily shut down.
Those who send their children to public schools registered their displeasure at the government for not doing its main job of indoctrinating their children, even temporarily.
"Raise, educate, and parent my children?" said one exasperated mother as her teen sat at home, bored and with nothing to do. "But that's the government's job! What am I supposed to do? Teach them things? Instill them with my values? Train them up in the way that they should go?"
"Honestly, if this keeps up, I'm going to move to a different country where I can count on the government to parent my children. This is ridiculous."
Luckily, parents quickly discovered they could just do what they usually do when their kids get home from school and let them lock themselves in their rooms with unfettered access to the internet, a wonderful place where nothing bad ever happens.
The Bee has just been excellent for the last 9 months to a year or so.
The saddest thing about this parody is it’s not. It’s meant to be. But, it isn’t. It is all too real in far too many American homes today.
oh brother
But there -was- some satire in there, right at the end, because sometimes bad things do happen on the internet. Like bandwidth limits and outages.
There oughta be a law.
Yup, saw a parent expressing exactly that on Portland TV tonight.
Ok, technically this isn’t a homeschool or BOYD article, but you both do a great job and I thought you were entitled to a laugh. Thank you.
Even more terrifying than coronavirus is the fact that this article is perfectly true.
Thanks!
Yes. I wouldn’t be surprised, if some of those telling everyone else to shut up about the C-word are terrified that the kids will be home all day. Teachers probably like the idea of avoiding the schools full of sick kids. Maybe we’ll even see a conflict behind the scenes between socialist parents and the teachers’ unions. ;)
Reminds me of the old age home brochure Niles reads off on an episode of Frasier: “ We care so you don’t have to”.
I saw the headline and thought.... *It could only be The Babylon Bee*.
And I was right.
It’s WAY too close to reality.
It said nothing about feeding them breakfast, lunch, and sometimes even dinner.
My county closed the schools yesterday (and today) because of water-quality issues. Thank you, County Public Works, for letting us know *Thursday* about contamination on *Monday*! Good thing we have cast-iron immune systems and Emergency Preparedness Merit Badge.
It will be interesting to see whether they go back next week or just declare an early Spring Break of indeterminate length.
LOL.
I work from home and make my own schedule. I do have scheduled outside appointments and meetings. My own children are 17 and 21. Im the mom. To make a long story short, I often get asked to help out family and friends with kids appointments, when school is closed, etc like my work isnt important. Anyway, in moderation I dont mind. I enjoy spending time with my nieces and nephews and friends kids. Well theyre talking about closing school here and you wouldnt believe the people that have asked me to drop everything if that happens. They expect me to take in a house full of kids and feed them breakfast and lunch as a favor. Im willing to help and we have the means but, my god, grow up people! The only reason I may do it for a while is to provide the kids with a fun time and maybe remind them to wash their hands etc When they look back I would like to think they could have some happy memories to tell their grandchildren about this time. I used to be a teacher.
You are so right.
Check out this ACTUAL headline from yesterday CNN:

The coronavirus pandemic is closing schools. How will kids eat?
