New York officials traced more than 50 Coronavirus cases back to one attorney who lives in Westchester County

In one small suburb on the outskirts of New York City, coronavirus cases jumped from one to more than 100 in less than 10 days.

Now the state's governor is trying to catch up to the virus by setting up a containment area around New Rochelle and deploying the National Guard to assist with food deliveries and clean public spaces.

"We'll go in, we'll clean the schools and assess the situation," New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said. "This will be a period of disruption for the community."

New Rochelle is about 25 miles outside of New York City.

The issue, the governor says, is "a matter of life and death." And it started with one resident.

The 50-year-old attorney, who works near Grand Central Station in Manhattan, tested positive for the virus on March 2 and was hospitalized at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Cuomo said.

The governor later said the man was New York City's first case of community spread -- meaning officials could not trace the source of his infection.

The man had an underlying respiratory condition that made him vulnerable to the virus but he was stable and improving, officials also said later.

Just two days after the man's positive results, on March 4, his 20-year-old son, a student at New York's Yeshiva University, also tested positive. School officials said he was showing symptoms of the virus.

The wife and 14-year-old daughter of the attorney both also tested positive on the same day.

So did the neighbor who drove him to the hospital.

And a friend of the attorney.

The friend's wife, two sons and daughter tested positive that day too.

The day after, on March 5, the governor says eight other people connected to the attorney tested positive for the virus.

He also took the train to his office in NYC. Has anyone in the office gotten sick?

This case shows how relatively nob-communicable it is, if it’s accurate.

If he got it “somewhere”, perhaps an airport say, there would be many many more cases all over if there was random and robust transmission at the airport or wherever he got it in the community.

RE: I did not know this man had traveled to Israel, do you know the exact dates?

SOURCE: FOX NEWS

https://www.foxnews.com/health/manhattan-lawyer-50-critical-condition-coronavirus-2nd-case-nyc

(EXCERPTS)

The man first became ill on Feb. 22 and sought medical care at a Westchester hospital on Feb. 27 after showing symptoms, according to Demetre Daskalakis, Deputy Commissioner at New York City Department of Health.

He had respiratory issues off and on for the last month that became much more severe in the last few days, Mayor Bill De Blasio said.

The mayor said he did not travel to any countries linked to the coronavirus outbreak but had been to Israel and Miami. He traveled to Miami in early February.

( That’s all we know from the article )

Then again, I’m wondering if there was an underlying respiratory condition if the guy didn’t seek medical attention for it. Superspreader could be lying about it to explain away why he was running around out in public while symptomatic.

I think he got it from Israel is my guess..they dont have an epidemic of this virus in Miami but they do in Israel(All travelers returning from Italy to Israel) so my guess he got it in Israel, maybe interacted with someone who had returned from Italy, flew back to New York and spread it around

“Has anyone in the office gotten sick?”

I read that no one in his office was sick, but I don’t know if that’s holding up or not.

I don’t think Governor Cuomo was prepared for this, why was he not prepared and basically did nothing to prepare?

I think it would be a “good thing” to have an idea of what type of “underlying condition” he had.
I realize they won’t share his private medical info, but a little information could be useful

I bet he shook hands with everyone he met.

Being a lawyer, he probably instinctively tried to suck the blood out of every living being he met.

It’s mostly been stopped in Asian countries that shut things down. The West/US do not appear to be willing to do that, except for Italy.

That’s what we need to do, too.

Carry hand sanitizer on your belt. Sanitize hands after any contact with humans. A little dab will do ya.

Yes, you can read more details about the unfortunate situation of Mr. Garbuz and those close to him in the Daily Mail article here.

"His immediate family, including his wife, 20-year-old son and 14-year-old daughter all tested positive.

The neighbor who drove him to the hospital also contracted the disease.

It then emerged his friend's family of five, including three children, tested positive.

Medical staff and the hospital, members of his law firm and attendees at the Temple Young Israel of New Rochelle synagogue, of which Garbuz is a member, have also been confirmed as cases."

Let's all pray for Mr. Garbuz and the others suffering.

I think the case shows that the virus is very communicable. See the Daily Mail article linked at post 27.

“I think the case shows that the virus is very communicable. See the Daily Mail article linked at post 27.”

I think the exact opposite conclusion is more likely.

If it were communicable as easily as flu or cold there would be many more cases.
