An Oregon comedian who was working on the coronavirus-stricken MS Westerdam cruise — which docked in Cambodia after being turned away from five countries — says he’s been fired from future gigs after fleeing quarantine.

Frank King said he escaped the hotel lockdown implemented after one of the Holland America liner passengers who disembarked tested positive for the coronavirus, news station WGXA reported.

“We were stuck in the hotel from which I self-deported,” King told the outlet.

He put people at risk.

He should be fired.

Nothing funny about that.

A nice hotel room? How would he have liked it if he was stuck at sea like those

other people on that other ship? This action only agitates big government to

impose more radical quarantines

Yeah, most “nice” hotel rooms are 4 times bigger than the cabins on a ship. But the public areas on ships are heads and shoulder above most hotels and the food is great and included.

But if you are quarantined inside your tiny cabin, the hotel room would be better place.

It’s a crime to break quarantine.

Throw his ass in prison.

While it won’t fix the fundamental flaw in his character (that is what deliberately breaking a quarantine implies), losing his job atleast levies a penalty for his distain for both his word and for the health of others whom he came into contact with. And the fact that he wasn’t sick doesn’t lessen his failing one bit.

He should count himself lucky. A couple weeks ago, there was a news report out of North Korea about a man caught breaking quarantine to visit a public bath house. The man was shot.

This guy is a selfish douchebag. He may or may not be infected, but he could be.

The ship he was on left Hong Kong on Feb. 1 and was supposed to visit Shanghai but couldn’t because coronavirus gripped China. The ship was then denied entry in Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, Guam and Thailand before finally being allowed to dock in Cambodia.

An 83-year-old woman who disembarked the ship tested positive for coronavirus in Malaysia, bringing the whole disembarking process to a halt. Some passengers had been put up in a five-star hotel in Phnom Penh awaiting travel home when the news of the positive test hit, meaning those on board and those at the hotel would have to all be tested and await results before being allowed to leave.

But King, who says he had an important speaking engagement back in the U.S. decided he couldn’t wait.

King says he was stopped by someone and repeatedly told he was not to leave, but he refused to comply unless he was going to be arrested and instead got into a waiting three-wheeled tuk-tuk, even carrying his luggage on his shoulders, to get to the airport.

He says he chose to fly back on his own on a more full-service airline, even purchasing a full-price, upgraded ticket as not to raise suspicion that he was trying to quickly leave the country at the last minute as cheaply as possible.

King said he sailed through the airports on his three connecting flights, only being asked if he had been to China, and had a rental car reserved in Seattle to get home to Eugene if he couldn’t fly from here.

King said somebody asked him if it was “kind of selfish to self deport?” He said while the results of his virus test weren’t back, he’s confident he’s OK since he has not shown any symptoms, nor fever, and says he had been essentially in quarantine for 14 days.

He’s lucky he did not pull that stunt in North Korea.

He would have been eternally self-deported.

No matter how carefully we monitor this there will always be ‘Typhoid Marys’ who actively work to skirt our efforts.

If he was infected with Wuhan flu, then he exposed everyone in those airliners to the disease.

I don’t think he was planning to go back on a floating petri dish you can’t get off of, anytime soon, anyways.

“Remember the cruise vacation that turned into the movie Contagion?” “You know its a bad sign when the ships crew looks like the cast of The Andromeda Strain.”

Please take not of the drop in reports of new cases. It is Mainland China
related, and is making these questionable numbers from the start, look
even worse.

In the last day or so the leadership of China stated they have done a
a lot of work to end COVID-19, and local Wuhan leaders would be held
responsible for reports of new cases.
