Should I feel better now? Like, wouldn’t a weapons lab be more primates and rats? So can we go back to this being a natural mutation and not some dropped vial in the marketplace? Does it make it less scary if we know the source or more scary? Or does it change anything? Well if it lowers the defcon level that’s less scary. And if we get to go kill a boatload and a half of terrorist bats, that makes it safer?

If this hits retail supply chains, Americans will go ages before jumping back into buying from China. It will be akin to buying Japanese when we were kids. Or at least when I was a kid.

The 1000 case was supposedly from a CDC text between an official at CDC and a friend of hers. The man’s son saw the text and posted it on social media. When they tried to ask her about it, she blocked them on Twitter. I posted a link but it must be a source not allowed on FR.
It’s just a rumor, so take it with a grain of salt. Rumors are gonna fly, though, if the CDC is not transparent.
I agree. If the hospitals are that overwhelmed they are simply pushing people through.
In a city of 11 million how many heart attacks, appendixes, and kidney failures do the have every day? It has to be in the hundreds...if not more.

I am no fan of the government, but my heart breaks for the folks in the middle of this.

They certainly were fake, at a minimum. For example, a person left China on Jan 15th, when they claimed something like 40 cases throughout the country, and shows up in Seattle with Coronavirus.
Maybe he was the one or two that they missed, and maybe my wife will win the Lotto...

Mine too, the doctors and nurses are probably focused right now on saving lives while managing not losing theirs. It is a war zone. No one has time to count.
What I see in thos photos are all of the beds. Those physical beds were probably all on their way to the US. On a good day, a day before a busy surgical day we would have 12 extras lined up outside the ORs. They are not in huge supply as most of them are leased.
(Yes...hospitals lease their beds because maintenance is an expensive pain in the ass.)

I agree with you on all points. Forcing the world to wait a month or more for a hint of data while shutting down their cities thank you, is just unbelievably poor form. A lot of trust has been lost in the world towards China. I posted upthread somewhere that the EU and the US will be looking at, oh, crap this is what we don’t have and have to have for an epidemic, it’s imperative to develop our own alternate sources instead of singlesourcing China for every alcohol wipe.
